Really struggling coming up with a boy name I like. I like classical names. We have somewhat settled on Nathaniel but it doesnt feel quite right and I dont love it with our last name which also starts with N. Im liking Lawrence because it feels dignified but warm and also underused. But he would mainly go by Wren, which I know is a girls name also. But it doesnt bother me that it is gender neutral.
Sister is Caroline. |

I really think Wren is pushing it for a boy. TBH, I think it's a pretty outre pick for a girl. You could do Ren, I guess. (I wouldn't).
I knew a little boy named Lawrence years ago. He went by Lawrence. I don't remember anyone thinking it odd or too long. It's only two syllables. There is always Laurie, which is cute in a Little Women way. |
| Have you considered Stuart (or Stewart)? |
LOL! If you name him Lawrence, it won't be up to you what his nickname is. It will be up to the kids at school--thankfully, in this case, since Wren is not a gender-neutral name, it is a girl's name. They will call him Larry. If you don't like the name Larry, don't use this name. Seriously. |
That's my feeling. Name him Lawrence if you like the names Lawrence and Larry. Or, if you want him to go by Wren, then name him Wren. |
|
I know a teen Lawrence who still goes by Lawrence. It can be done.
Wren definitely makes me think "girl," but Ren makes me think "boy." Silly, maybe. I don't know ... I don't hate this name, but I don't love it either. |
| Wren for a boy?? Nope. |
| Wren is a girl’s name, to me. At the least, spell it Ren. |
Agree Ren for a boy |
|
Also, Ren and Stimpy!
Maybe there are other names like that you could look at. Or people here can suggest ideas. I like the name Peter as a traditional name. |
Agree, "Ren" for a boy. That was the name of Kevin Bacon's character in Footloose. I also know a Lawrence who is called Lance. He's a junior for his father who is called Larry. But I also know a toddler Lawrence who is called by the full name |
I don't think this generation will automatically use Larry as a nickname. It'd be like naming your kid Robert and thinking his classmates will automatically call him Bob or Bobbie or calling Richard, Dick. That's just not a thing these days. Those are generational nicknames that don't apply so much anymore. I like the nickname Ren, and if he goes to school with that as his nickname, that's what the kids will call him. |
|
IMO, Laurence.
NNs: Lars, Ren or Renzo. |
|
Lars and Lance are kind of nice! This is growing on me.
Or how about Landon? |
And eventually his classmates will call him Kylo. |
