How much money do you give to your church?

The last posters must be Republican haters. No open-minded tolerant Democrat would ever write things like that.

We give most to the. church. My grandfather was a pastor until his church hit a financial bump. They cut his already meager salary in half. Clergy kids deserve to eat, too.

Really? Are the kids of the clergy going hungry now?

When the church won't pay pastors enough to feed their kids, it's definitely time to look for another job -- and maybe question their faith.

Just want to emphasize that "the church" that is paying the pastor is nearly always the congregation, made up of individuals. Very few denominations have central organizations that pay into local churches. If my fellow congregants don't give, our minister doesn't get paid.

I was 10 years old the last time I had a minister who was a parent -- it's very difficult to afford a family and most ministers I know are single.

Liar
Most have kids

Bible says to give your grain offering to a levite priest

You are free to pick and choose what charity you want, whether it is missions, local church or a wildlife conservation

Nothing in the Bible contradicts that.
Ministers are not poor, they live in large homes, drive nice cars, eat good food and all their kids have college funds

I try to give enough to pay my fair share of building maintenance and support for the priest, which ends up being a couple thousand a year. The rest goes to relief organizations, women’s shelters, environmental organizations, etc. Here on earth, God’s work must truly be our own.

Do we go to the same church? The one with the new carpet and furniture that looks like the lobby of a boutique hotel?

We give 5% of our gross income to our church. We also do a lot of in-kind service such as driving elderly folks to church each week, and staying late to clean up after coffee hour.

It’s nowhere near 10 percent of my income, but it’s what I can afford right now.

+1.

Catholic with one working parent and one stay at home parent. Three little kids (two in Catholic schools, K and part-time pre-K). We aren't strapped and could scrape together more, but we are also dealing with needing to fund 401(k), mortgage, 529s, etc. Plus I am supporting the schools and raising my kids catholic and tying to be a good role model. Also I think the church has been working on reforms and that is good but still not yet ready to trust making large donations, so if I was in a position to cut large checks I might research a specific cause more thoroughly, and I have no time for that.

Right now we are getting by trying to boost our savings and get our kids out of diapers and into school, and then we will take it from there.

For 2019 we pledged $2900 and will meet that amount. The church has asked us to consider a 5% increase this year, and are likely to do so. Our HHI is about $200K, so we're only giving about 1.5% of our income.
