Private & Independent Schools
| Outside of families with kids enrolled at Maret, does anyone actually like this school? They certainly haven’t done their reputation in the community any favors…yikes. |
Well, it’s a legal contract you like or not. |
In fact yes, the acceptance ratio is less than 10 percent. So there is huge demand for attending Maret. |
Slavery was a legal contract. Didn't make it just. Maret's backroom "legal contract" to grab Jelleff isn't just either. |
|
And it would seem that some of the top universities in the country like Maret, or at least their graduates.
|
You can complain to your council member if you are unhappy with the contract. |
Ah yes, no credibility of argument lost at all when comparing Maret’s agreement with DC to slavery. |
What does Maret use its tuition for if it's not paying for capital projects like athletic fields? |
You must be new around here. There was a huge community outcry when the Maret Jelleff no-bid contract was approved for its second decade. But it was "legal" for Maret to renew, and Maret must have found it profitable to do so despite the contract being very unpopular with the community. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/08/20/dc-council-should-stop-allowing-private-entities-take-over-public-parks-buildings/ https://thewash.org/2019/10/22/backroom-deal-on-jelleff-field-access-creates-controversy/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/a-private-school-saved-a-public-dc-field-should-it-get-preference-for-play-time/2019/10/21/7030f9c8-f412-11e9-a285-882a8e386a96_story.html |
Learn to read. Several news outlets reported that Council Member Jack Evans' kid attended Maret. Jack Evans was eventually forced to resign due to corruption, but not before putting in place this Jelleff deal where DC was stuck accomodating Maret for decades... https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/a-private-school-saved-a-public-dc-field-should-it-get-preference-for-play-time/2019/10/21/7030f9c8-f412-11e9-a285-882a8e386a96_story.html

This is the case. The whole thing is fenced off right now. It's maddening, because they are supposed to be renovating the building. So it's unclear why the field is out of commission. Are they doing some kind of renovations to it? If it's just for ease of construction, that's really, really lame. Right now, DPR has Ellington, Volta, and Jellef all out-of-commission at the same time for construction. I'm not sure where they expect the community to go -- just shelve their exercize plans for a couple of years and then live it up? |
But now is crystal clear. It’s not maret fault it’s DPRs fault. People get a life and don’t blame a private school because of your own frustrations. |
Maret has had its hooks into Jelleff for 17 years so it deserves a lot of blame for the situation at Jelleff. That it's being renovated now with $28 million in DPR money to have much needed renovations that Maret never did is a good thing. |
| If Maret wants to do this, equity and inclusion should not be a part of their woke curriculum. |
I don’t have a problem with wokeness. I have a problem with fake wokeness. |
