VA Public Schools other than FCPS
As one PP stated "normal" working hours are industry specific. I don't think the PP who cited the Pentagon example is from here. They don't seen to know where it is, how people commute there, or how it operates. |
Which high schools start this early? Where I am, elementary school students can attend "before care" at the elementary school if their parents need to work early. |
| Falls Church City. |
I live 7 miles from Pentagon and I worked there from 1999 to 2016. Suck on that, sweetie. |
| Everybody lies about--or at least underestimates--their commuting times. |
Yes. This by the way is why I don’t believe people who claim to work from 6:30-3 or whatever at my old agency. I am positive that they arrive more like 7:30 but just believe it is more like 6:30. |
My experience was that in the government there was a defined contingency that did not work industry standard hours but were technically allowed the schedule of 6:30-3 (or 2:30 if the decided to ignore the unpaid lunch requirement). Industry standard was actually to be available until 5-6 but these few just didn’t care and I have my doubts that they actually arrived by 6:30. I eventually just started leaving them out of meetings when they were unreasonably unavailable. Which is no doubt what they wanted. |
You are proving my point. |
IME one of the variables was who your counterparts were and their standard hours. There was no point in arriving at 7am if you worked primarily with Congress, for example, so a super early scheduled would not have worked for a congressional Liaison office. Just one example. Lots of different industries even within government. Also, lots of different jobs in DC, not knowing at government. But most people seem to commute into DC after 8am, which is why the traffic is so bad. If you have a mom-standard schedule, lucky you. You can live further out. Your commute time really depends a lot on when you need to be at work. |
So, despite being presented with incontrovertible data, you maintain that one can not get from Del Ray to DC in 16 minutes at 7:30 in the morning? |
It's a given that if you get your a$$ in the car before 7:30 you can get to the State Department more quickly than if you left at the normal time, yes. But the State Department isn't really downtown DC and it's still not 16 minutes door to door. |
I don’t think you can get from there that quickly every day, no. |
Well, prove Google wrong, genius. |

Wow y'all are fiesty. If I leave by 7:30 I can leave Ballston and get to F&9th within 15-20 minutes. If I leave before 4:30, I can get home in 12 minutes!!! at best. Usually another 15-20.
But there's a weird window if I hit 66 right at 9:30, I can also do it at that time. Another weird window is leaving my house at 8:50 (but not 9). That said, I usually leave at 9 and have a 40 min commute. 395 makes me want to die and kill so I avoid it. |
Google says 30 minutes from Del Ray to my office (not including parking time). |
