Thoughts on Georgetown

Very good Catholic school but way behind Notre Dame. Poorly financed but more prestigious than Holy Cross and no other Catholic school competition.

I’ve seen posts before explaining why Georgetown’s endowment is so low and my reaction is “who cares why?” What matters is that it’s low. Too low.

I think they are around 4 billions this year - compared to 2020 where it was not even 2 billions. Yes, it's lower due to late start but I think they progress well.

Check this: https://datausa.io/profile/university/georgetown-university , data is only up to 2023.

The problem with Georgetown is that so many of the grads are jackasses. It's a decent school but it's not exactly elite.

Not sure I agree with that, unless you are talking about Bill Clinton.

Kid is not part of the lax-bro (male or female) culture, apparently has a great group of friends, is active in a number of clubs and has had a number of great internship opportunities, particularly during the school year.

SFS has been a great experience for them, even if going into the government at this time isn't a first choice.

And problem of god was a great class for them - we are not particularly religious or catholic.

My kid is very interested in SFS. Given your kid’s positive experience, what is he/she likely to do post graduation? Is the option to go into government getting any better? What are SFS 2026 graduates gravitating towards as they seek opportunities? How is the career office responding to the current situation with government employment recruiting?

Take it out if DC, Georgetown would be Marquette with a bad basketball program.

Bill Clinton and Hunter Biden are Georgetown grads-that speaks volumes about the school.

Father Merrin should spend some time with these two.

Not one of my kids peers from MCPS applied. It has lost it luster and older folks seem to be the only ones who still consider it a certain caliber. Old dorms are unlivable (but still used). So many better schools out there. This one is fading.

A lot of that endowment comes courtesy of the football program, be honest about it.

Be honest about where Georgetown's comes from. Hint - it's a country without a Catholic population.

Georgetown is still very much in demand at my kid's HS, with multiple students applying each year. Some students don't mind being close to home especially when they have the advantage of living in DC.
