ICE preparing raids in NOVA

The “rules” are archaic. Both parties have agreed at various points that some sort of reform is needed, but certain wealthy politicians continuously upend attempts to fix things because the reality is they don’t simply want immigrants to “follow the rules.” They actually don’t want them to be here at all.

Not to mention many people who have been trying to follow “the rules” are being deported anyway. We have asylum seekers who filled out their info. having the rug pulled out from under them. People appearing for appointments with immigration officials trying to get paperwork sorted being nabbed.

When I was younger and less educated and lived in a red state bubble I had a lot of similar sentiment about how if you want to come to the U.S. then you should follow the law. But now that I’m older and have gone to law school and have met people from various backgrounds, I’ve realized how incredibly rigged the system is. It’s not like most immigrants *want* to be undocumented.

I’m also appalled meanwhile that when our president, one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, violates due process the republicans try to write it off as an oopsie paperwork issue. But God forbid some poor immigrant fail to follow a complex, outdated system to perfection, then their punishment is banishment possibly to a prison in some country they’ve never been to that violates human rights.

I keep waiting for the entirety of our country to wake up to the fact that our systems are built to benefit the wealthy and privileged. The angry rhetoric about immigrants “taking from the taxpayer” is to distract from the real scams being pulled by the rich and powerful.

Also have you ever noticed we’re told we shouldn’t be helping immigrants because we need to “help our own.” But then despite all these deportations, we are not helping our own. If anything we’re cutting veterans benefits and making safety nets like SS, SNAP, etc. harder to access. But Drumpf and co are hoping if they scare everyone enough about brown people from other countries, we won’t fight back against the ruling class.

And yet … they aren’t proposing to spend any money on schools and citizens (unless you count tax breaks for the rich). 🤔

Because we are a country founded on immigration. When your white immigrant ancestors came over, it was just fine and dandy. But now that non-white people are coming over, you suddenly have a problem with it.

Good Lord. Study some history.
The people who came over 100 years ago were vetted. They were checked for disease and they had to be able to support themselves. There was a process and people who came followed the process.

That is NOT what happened the past 4 years. And, stop making it about race. We had tens of thousands, if not millions of illegal aliens from "white" countries breach our border as well. They need to go too.

Entering a country illegally is against the law... no matter when then did it. And, just because the laws haven't been enforced in the past does not make it right. About time our laws are being enforced now.

I LOVE how you tell someone to study history and in the same breath display such an abysmal ignorance of history yourself. Average processing time at Ellis Island was 3-5 hours. But please do tell us how carefully we vetted prospective immigrants back then.

11 million people over a period of 50 years is pretty different from the last four years.

How many people crossed the border illegally over the past 4 years you think? Do you think ICE is only rounding up those people?

They don't even have warrants or names! Think of it. If you go to arrest one person working at a restaurant - how would you ever know the status of anyone else working there? You don't. But you sweep them up anyway, because they 'could be' and without due process, you'll never know and they are taken from their homes, families, livelihoods.

I don't want to hear any of your MAGAs upset when the U.S. born children of these men and turn to crime to help support their families. You can't expect people to just sit there and die because of your racism. One thing about the immigrant culture - they work, they will hustle and they will make a way. Most Americans don't have that GRIT.

ICE has recently arrested US citizens. Do you not read the news? (And no, Fox does not count as news).

Well, if it has been in the news, you should be able to provide a link. Where is it? What source? What are the names of these citizens?

Somewhere between 10 and 20 million.
ICE is arresting primarily illegal alien criminals - those who have committed additional crimes in the US.
Many other illegal aliens are arrested as collateral arrests. Especially in sanctuary cities where they authorities refuse to work with ICE.
When ICE has to go out on the streets and find the people whom they are targeting, anyone with them who is here illegally is also going to be arrested.

I would like to see the source of your information. I want to see who estimated that 20 million people crossed the border illegally.

Also, you're ok with people being collateral damage of ICE just because they happen to be at the wrong place when ICE decides to show up?

This citation is from well before the end of Biden's term. And, it does not include the ones he flew in on the CHNV program.....

Under President Biden’s watch, there have been over 8 million migrant
encounters nationwide, 6.7 million of which have been at the Southwest border.
Worse yet, over 1.7 million known gotaways—illegal immigrants who have evaded
Border Patrol— are now living in the interior of the United States without
documentation and without having undergone any vetting by immigration officials.

https://budget.house.gov/imo/media/doc/ogr_icymi.pdf

And, I am fine with the collateral arrests when ICE arrests someone who is being issued a warrant......perhaps they should choose better company to keep. And, it would not happen so frequently if states weren't sanctuary states or cities weren't sanctuary cities.

Wait a minute!!! 6.7 million encounters at the southern border is a far cry from 20 million illegals who crossed the southern border illegally. Encounters mean that most of them did not enter. Facts matter, numbers matter.
