S/O: I like Joel Osteen. Change my mind.

Of all the televangelists out there, Joel Osteen seems remarkably inoffensive to me. I have seen a few of his sermons and dare I say I like them. They are uplifting and not really “meaty” but that’s not his ministry or his goal. His goal is to encourage people and make them feel like faith in God is a positive, uplifting thing. I like that, especially when you consider how many people were exposed to a punitive, fire and brimstone type of Christianity. I have heard about the various controversies surrounding him and Lakewood church and they all seem rather manufactured.

I love him too. Not trying to change your mind, I agree. I think he triggers a lot of people because he has such a pure, positive energy and it brings up some really jealous, angry reactions. That's my opinion though

Is inoffensive really the best measure of someone's job performance.

It's great that he's a nice guy and has a positive approach. He's also a rank hypocrite traveling around in his private jet and not serving the needy during a hurricane in Houston. However, he's not the only hypocrite, so maybe inoffensive is the best measure?

If that's the pool you're judging him against I can actually see why you don't think he's so bad.

I find him so uplifting and joyful. Watching one of his sermons always puts me in a better frame of mind for the week.

OP here. This whole controversy surrounding the hurricane seemed SO manufactured. The church was flooded. How could they let people into a flooded building? This is what I am talking about- every controversy just seems like an excuse to hate on him.
