Adding to this: Banneker has in past years rolled out interviews in waves. There's no reason to believe they're done after the first wave this year, not when April 1 is still so far off. |
OK, but the website says late February and Feb. 15th isn't late February by anyone's definition. |
I understood that 3.5 would be too low also. When I spoke with my kid's teachers this year, they told me that this was not the case and that they stood a decent shot at getting in. We applied with this in mind, but I would still be surprised if an invitation materializes. |
| Does anyone know the average or lowest GPA that Banneker accepted last year? Not asking for guesses. |
The school doesn’t release this info. My kid had a 3.3 GPA in 7th grade and is enrolled now. It really is holistic. |
Thanks! How does your kid like the school? It’s always so hard to tell from one open house what a school is like. It’s nice to hear from kids/parents who attend. |
| DD got an interview at Banneker next week with a 3.6 or maybe a 3.7? in seventh grade. But we have been told we must bring a second semester report card in. |
My kid likes Banneker a lot. The kids are very nerdy but they seem to have fun. There is low level competition among the kids. There are some great teachers but a few that are meh. The school does an excellent job preparing the kids for college. But I know it is a favorite school to bash here. |
I don't think it is anymore! Maybe in years past. But this year there seem to be many more first hand positive accounts. |
Thanks for the info. It’s nice to hear from a parent whose kid actually goes there (instead of the racist trolling). |
She loves it. She’s an introverted kid who was really terrified of not making friends. It took about a week during BSI, but she was able to find her friends over summer. On the first day of school, sophomores were engaging and really helpful by going over her schedule and giving her the scoop on her classes, teachers, and what to expect. There was even a senior kid in advisory who taught her some features on her graphing calculator. She initially found the phone policy “oppressive” (LOL) but now understands why cell phones must be locked away during the school day. She’s got friends who are straight A students so far as well as friends who are struggling with their first Cs and even Ds. |
Thank you for the info! |
