Has anyone heard from Banneker HS about interviews?

Had not heard from McKinley Tech re interview until this week but a few friends had interviewed early Feb.
The schools are sending interview invites in waves.

Would you be able to speak to the structure of the interviews and any noticeable differences in approach or application?

There was a writing sample - where DC had to select from 3 things to write about.
3 teachers interviewed just DC and then parents had a 5 min interview.

McKinley Tech pretty much takes everyone who applies.
They cannot afford to be choosy as they need to fill spots and there is limited interest in the school

This actually isn't true. I teach middle school in DCPS and I have students who didn't get in.

I second this. McKinley tech gets over 1000 applications and doesn’t interview even half of those.

I think you need about a 3.0 or better to get an interview at McKinley and more like 3.5 for Banneker.

Nope, there is no gpa "requirement" for either. Lot of word games and very surprising. SWW is the only one with a gpa "requirement."

I’m not saying there’s an actual requirement. But past experience is that’s about what you need to get an interview.

McKinley actually suggests over a 3.0 and has it on their rubric.

Banneker actually suggests a 2.5....Neither is a hard requirement. Just says we can take anyone we deem is a fit.

No one said what was hard or not hard. Just said that they don't actually take every person who applies.

I don't know much about this school. But, we applied. Do they gave a hard time filling spots. Is there good academics. It does not seem like it has a lot of stem requirements. They presented they school in a great way at the open house. Not sure about anything else.

have you been checking your spam folder? All of my emails about interviews for my kid have gone there

I have and nothing. Also, emails from McKinley and Walls hit my primary inbox.

Never heard from them last year..Flipped our lottery rankings and made Walls our top choice. Ended up there. Just be prepared to do so.

Late reply, but we ended up hearing from Banneker shortly after and DC interviewed that Saturday. Great suggestion though.

Unnecessary.

They have a lot of initial applicants but many of the admitted students don’t actually enroll.
Usually kids also apply to Banneker and Walls and will pick both of those schools over Mckinley.
In the summer, Mckinley will basically enroll anyone they can get

My kid did not get invited to interview with >3.0. I don’t remember where their rubric was, but I think I recall teacher recommendations were weighted heavily. It may have changed since then.

Unnecessary.
