Has anyone heard from Banneker HS about interviews?

Had not heard from McKinley Tech re interview until this week but a few friends had interviewed early Feb.
The schools are sending interview invites in waves.

McKinley Tech pretty much takes everyone who applies.
They cannot afford to be choosy as they need to fill spots and there is limited interest in the school

This actually isn't true. I teach middle school in DCPS and I have students who didn't get in.

I second this. McKinley tech gets over 1000 applications and doesn’t interview even half of those.

They have a lot of initial applicants but many of the admitted students don’t actually enroll.
Usually kids also apply to Banneker and Walls and will pick both of those schools over Mckinley.
In the summer, Mckinley will basically enroll anyone they can get

It's really just about where they rank it with MySchoolDC, but I hear you. Students never actually know how many schools wanted them if they get into their top choice.

I don't know much about this school. But, we applied. Do they gave a hard time filling spots. Is there good academics. It does not seem like it has a lot of stem requirements. They presented they school in a great way at the open house. Not sure about anything else.

What do you mean not a lot of STEM requirements? The kids have to pick a STEM track, do required internships, arrange paid STEM jobs, while in school, etc. it’s H.S., not college.

Good lord. This nonsense again. Last year, they had almost 2,000 applicants. They take under 200 kids. It’s possible that in the summer they might have some movement on their waitlist, like any school. They turn kids away every year.

Nope, there is no gpa "requirement" for either. Lot of word games and very surprising. SWW is the only one with a gpa "requirement."

McKinley actually suggests over a 3.0 and has it on their rubric.

Banneker actually suggests a 2.5....Neither is a hard requirement. Just says we can take anyone we deem is a fit.

So, a pulse then?

Why must every thread involving Banneker or McKinley go this route? Why not keep your racism to yourself? You seem to enjoy it so much.

So far, we've only heard from McKinley Tech. Banneker is DC's top choice, however.

Our Banneker interview is coming up. Already had our McKinley interview.

My son had all As and one B+ last year (7th grade) and All As first term of 8th. We have friends that had interviews yesterday. We have yet to receive any notice. I was told that they will have another round on March 6th.

My kid ranked Walls ahead of Banneker. While he not be interviewed (or considered) until after Walls admission has played out? We have not heard anything from either school yet (he has a ~3.5 GPA so it's also not beyond the realm of possibility that he didn't make the cut-off).

The deadline for teacher recs was only last Friday (Feb. 9th). It's hard to believe that they reviewed the applications that quickly or may just be prioritizing those whose recommenders submitted early or those with 4.0s (for whom the recs may not be a deciding factor).

No. The schools work independently and in parallel.

Weird. My Schools DC says that the interviews will occur in late February and early March.

Weird? Yesterday was MID-February and March 6 is early March. So, really not weird.

Unless they’ve changed the requirements, a 3.5 will be too low to get an interview at Walls. Last year, the cutoff was 3.87.

For others waiting to hear from Banneker, DC didn’t hear from the school until after the deadline and interviewed very last minute. Currently enrolled, however. They increased the freshman class by about 80% last year are probably overwhelmed this year as well. Feel free to email, but they’re probably just behind.
