College and University Discussion
Is not knowing it like not knowing Williams? (I remember a long thread about that on here before). Anyway, a colleague went there and was a bit miffed that none of us had heard of it. I looked it up online. Apparently it is "highly" selective so it is a good school I guess.

| Of course. It's a very old liberal arts college and a good one. |
|
Yes, I have heard of it. It's a great school.
Did most of your colleagues attend large universities? |

Bit of a mixed bag. A few big ten schools, a couple VA people (UVA and W&M), a couple ivies. The look on her face though. It was like we were neanderthals who had never heard of Princeton or something. lol |
| Not until last year. It's in the South, not well known at all, not anywhere near as selective as Williams! And not well known outside of the South. |
| She's the Neanderthal. Honestly, who ever heard of Davidson? |
| Yes, it is an excellent school. When I find out someone graduated from there, I am impressed & assume he or she is very bright & a very hard worker. |
Other than the part about it being in the South, the above poster is completely wrong on all accounts. |
Yes. In my experience. people who went to "elite" southern schools have an inferiority complex compared to people who went to elite northern ones. Everyone has heard of the competitive schools in the Northeast so those people actually try to downplay it ("I went to school in Cambridge, New Haven," etc.). Not so much in other areas of the country. |
