Barnard is Barnard, not Columbia!!!

Wellesley admission rate for class of 2026 is 8 percent.

Barnard admission rate for class of 2026 was 8 percent.

Wanna know why? Because it is affiliated with a top tier Ivy League School and the degree says it.

Thanks for playing.

Columbia is a mid-tier Ivy at best. Columbia will never be HYP, no matter how much certain DCUM posters want to to be.

Columbia College and Columbia School of International and Public Affairs grad here. No, Barnard is not a part of the Columbia Corporation. Barnard is its own corporation. Barnard has its own President, its own board of trustees and its own endowment.

+1. It is a separate school.

My daughter attends Wellesley. Campus is gorgeous, out of the rat race, safe, and no affiliation debates. She never considered Barnard, and after reading this long thread, I am relieved!

PP and PPP--you are the same: Barnard does pay, so whether it pays or not is inconsequential. It pays to be part of Columbia. The gate says Barnard College of Columbia University. The degree says Columbia University on it AND Barnard--they hold two graduations. Wellesley is a great school--it has a 13 percent acceptance rate. Barnard was 8 percent. Because people view it as affiliated with Columbia.

Given the collapse in US News Rankings, Barnard will now pay Cornell to be affiliated with them. The sign on the Gate is being changed to Barnard College of Cornell University as we speak. Sorry couldn't resist. HAHA.

If you graduate from Barnard are you also an alumni of Columbia university?

Wow, this really reflects badly on both of you. How petty. I’m a Barnard grad, with great respect for Wellesley and all the other Seven Sisters. (Do you even know what that means?) Barnard has been a place of excellence and a counterpart to Columbia for more than a hundred years. And yes, I know that’s not as old as HYP. Don’t embarrass yourself by pointing it out.

Yes. 1,000 times, yes. But I will admit as a Barnard grad, it’s annoying they don’t sell Barnard gear at the CU bookstore. You have to go to the Barnard student center, which has a small store. Kind of like Barnard, you have to be in the know. It’s a distinction with a difference, and for all the Barnard women I know, that’s a very great thing!

People here make it sound like an entirely different university.

These things are LLP true. It is part of Columbia University and you can take all the classes Columbianastusnets can, except maybe the common core. But it is separate from Columbia and easier to get into without a doubt. Look, Columbia School of General Studies also says Columbia on the diploma but it’s not like having gotten into Columbia undergrad even though you take the exact same classes. But if you can get As at GS and get references from those profs you can go to a top grad school.

Who cares either way? Columbia is a fake elite college full of weird kids.
