I see DDs classmates posting Barnard-Columbia '26. No, they are two separate schools! Yes, you can take classes at one or the other but your diploma will say Barnard.
Be proud of Barnard. |
Actually the diploma says Columbia University, Barnard College. Barnard is part of Columbia. |
So tell your DD and her friends - Not us. |
I went to Barnard! Love it! Great school! I didn't call it Columbia, nor did I want to go to CU. But why do you care? |
So funny that this annoys OP. Jealous? |
Well, can you answer the question? DOES your diploma say "Columbia" anywhere on it? |
Barnard is an affiliate of Columbia. It pays 1 million a year to Columbia to gain access to Columbia resources.

Tried to post a photo of the front gates- “Barnard College of Columbia University.” |
Barnard always has an inferiority complex. |
Meh, share faculty, share a campus, it's one of 4 separate colleges that make up Columbia...and yes the diplomas come from Columbia. Great junior Ivy school, expensive as heck and in a crap part of the city. |
Columbia says it has 3 undergraduate schools.
Barnard said Columbia has 4 undergraduate schools. - from their websites. |
It is a bit of a back door situation, isn’t it? They should just purchase another campus and sever formal ties to the university. After all, Barnardians proudly proclaim that they wanted to attend Barnard, not Columbia!
And yea, everyone finds the intentional obfuscation of the Barnard name on the part of Barnard students/grads shady. Just say Barnard. |
What about <$100K HHI families who brag about "full ride scholarships" to suggest they're geniuses or something when it is quite literally means-based FINANCIAL AID offered to every admit at or below that HHI bucket. Sooooooo freaking cringe and shameless. |
Who are they tricking exactly? Do Barnard girls have access to all the same pre-professional student orgs, networking events, and career portal & resume drops as Columbia students? I assume they do. So if they are given access to all of that, it's not really tricking anyone. You either have an impressive resume, interview well, and look cute/polished or you don't. It's not like any decent firm just randomly hires any alleged Ivy League senior and throws a $100k job offer at them. |
