Amalyn Bethesda?

lol - the community has been after a 7th ES for forever (my kids from severely overcrowded Ashburton are in college).

MCPS doesn't want one. The community asked to reopen Grosvenor, MCPS said no. Some WJ cluster parents got 4.2 acres from the WMAL field (now the Amalyn development) for a future ES, and MCPS has done NOTHING with it. Instead, MCPS combined Ashburton with Behtesda ES for some study and changed the Bethesda ES catchment area and put the modular addition at Ashburton (it was always supposed to be "temporary").

Ashburton has been overcrowded, significantly overcrowded, for well over a decade

I think I heard that there is space on the development reserved for an elementary school.

MCPS already stated that they will NOT be building an elementary school on the property at Amalyn, or anywhere else within that area.

They said this when Toll Brothers initially bought the property and were emphatic about it then.
Why is this being discussed like there's a possibility now?

When will Amalyn Elementary be constructed and open? Will it only be for residents?

Would Amalyn Elementary feed into Pyle then Whitman?

There are 4.2 acres dedicated for a future ES. No decisions on boundaries until 18 months before opening. Since MCPS hasn't even said they would build an ES, it will be at least a decade, if not more, before there are any boundary decisions. But, it definitely wouldn't be only for those who live in the 309 houses and townhouses of Amalyn - wouldn't be enough kids to fill the ES

What else would Amalyn do with that space if not a school? Maybe a radio tower and a dog park lol

They need to leave it empty because it is reserved for a school. In the time it takes for MCPS to decide to build a school there, the neighbors will likely come to rely on the green space for recreation and complain bitterly when the time comes to construct the school.

Sucks to be MCPS.

I heard they are going to put a concrete mixing plant there.

Just build new homes and make over 55 with no kids under 18 allowed.

This community is so loud it is wild. We visited today during rush hour and the sound is unbearable. There is a constant loud hum of cars on 495 and 270. Wild anyone would buy here. You are literally surrounded by highways

Ha, ha, ha. MCPS would never allow this. You must be new here. Go learn about equity in MCPS.
