Where is UVA booster? |
They would just say that SATs don't mean much and that UVA produced the most Rhodes scholar. ![]() |
I’m super confused. I didn’t see Columbia in the list, so checked out their CDS, which says 50th % was 1540 (with 48% of admitted students submitting SAT). Are they knocked off the list bc of the USNWR rankings-fudging fiasco? These numbers are unrelated to that so seems misleading to exclude or at least drop a note that it wasn’t considered? Not at top of my kids list but noticed it wasn’t there. |
No, she would point out that UVA’s mean is 1470 and that it is inexplicably missing from the list. She would also note that several other top-ranked schools are missing as well. |
And they - and anyone really - could just add schools to the list. Or sit back and criticize the person who did all the work. |
They also only report 75% of the Freshman class. |
Interesting. Thanks for posting. |
It does look like Columbia got punished for lying about their numbers. As for Johns Hopkins, I thought for sure it would be on the list.
Georgetown being test mandatory is the reason it isn't on the list. Next few years it will reappear as more schools become test mandatory. |
That makes sense. I would guess that almost every student scores at least 780 or above on Math, leaving "only" 720 for Reading. It would also reaffirm that scores in the 1500's are great scores and should provide a boost to any applicant at any school. It won't be the final word, but it certainly would be a net positive for the applicant. |
UMD median score is 1445, not that much different to UVA. But since both are TO, it doesn't mean that much. |
USNews takes the average. That is much much different and lowe than the average. |
PP meant to say, lower than the media. UMD probably has an average of just north of 1400 |
Does US News use some proprietary data to calculate the average? How does it know everyone's score? The average that it uses in its list is different than what one would expect from the common data sets which show the 25th and 75th percentile. But somehow US News knows the scores themselves?
It isn't surprising you won't see UVA on the list. I'm sure the average scores of those in the 25th percentile are pretty low considering they take in kids from all the counties. Same thing for Michigan and North Carolina. On average those schools are going to have a much lower SAT average than the private schools. |
The article states that colleges reported the data to USNews via the annual survey. |
Too bad that US News doesn't provide the average for all schools. I wonder why they limit it to only the top 35? Between national universities and selective liberal arts schools they have left out an awful lot of schools that we don't know the averages of. Johns Hopkins, William and Mary, Georgetown, UVA, UNC, Georgia Tech, etc. |
