Ugh street walkers are back in Logan Circle

Anonymous
I believe OP, I was in Gallery Place at night this week for an event and I didn’t feel comfortable. It’s gotten very rough. Definitely not an after work in suits crowd. Also, there were streetwalkers in DC around the early 2000s over by what is now the city center area. Not surprising they’ve returned given city policies and the reduction in the professional folks coming in daily but mainly it’s the city policies. You can favor tent people or professionals but you’ve got to pick one.

I remember a bunch of articles in the Post a few years ago arguing for the legalization of sex work.

No, that failed in 2019. but helpful nonprofits are throwing around a lot of $$ to keep trying: https://decriminalizesex.work/advocacy/state/washington-d-c/

I walk my dog in Logan in the early morning a couple times a week. Yes, sex workers are back.

At 6:15 am (which is when I pass through) every day, there are between 2 and 6 women (some of them are pretty young, some not) working the street.

I see them mostly on 12th St NW between N and O. Their pimp is there as well. It's really sad.

OP here:
They were actually one white women and one Latina. White woman looked like the types you see strung out on the streets of Cumberland, MD. She was trying to talk to us through the cracked window: “Hey boys want to talk to us? Where you going? Let’s party together. Want us to get in the car?”

They were doing a hard sell.

Lol why were you catching an Uber blocks away from the nearest restaurant? There’s nothing by that gas station.

Ugh you are so tedious.

We had already been in the Uber for 5+ minutes coming from the east and were stopped at the red light by the gas station en route home.

Look, the street walkers are coming back to Logan. They disappeared around 2015-2016 time period. It’s a bad sign that MPD is letting them freely conduct business again.

Smaller MPD probably prioritizes violent crime. Agree it's not a good sign, OP. CH, Logan, Adams Morgan are increasingly not family friendly neighborhoods. It's sad to see progress re: public safety and DCPS slipping back...

The butt cheeks hanging out along with boobs pulling out the top used to be the sign but I feel like I’m see other people wearing that now. I guess if they actually ask for money for sex, that’s the way to kmow.

+1 Too many women of all ages today are dressing like the lowest common denominator -- as tacky and revealing as possible.

Wtf! The city had done such a good job cleaning up this area and at the very least moving this off the street. Tbh, I don’t go out much these days for late dinners, but this feels like bad slippage by the city.

Has it been like this for a while? These women were literally half naked. I had not seen this in years.

Well....how attractive were they?

OMG, poor brown people in Chinatown. How did you ever survive?

"Ugh johns are back in Logan Circle" is something OP could have said, yet didn't.

For a while, Logan Circle was the gayborhood. Now that the straights have bought them out, the sex workers are back.

You don't really think the johns are coming from Logan Circle, do you? Plus there's still tons of gays in Logan.

Are you sure they were women?

I know you think you're making a clever point, but you clearly are writing this from a privileged spot that doesn't get out much because that is not the situation in Chinatown now at all. It is poor brown people that are among those terrorized by the current situation. I wish idiots like you could grasp that.

My grandmother passed away 25 years ago. That's the last person I heard use the term "street walker"
