Older, overweight woman needs help finding bathing suit options

I like lands end.

Yep: Lands End.

Swimsuits for All is another option, and some of their styles are available through Amazon, but I think the quality and customer service is much better at Lands End. Lands End also sells a variety of cover-up options. My favorites are the dresses and tunics made from the same types of materials as the swim suits.

Oh sweet child. Run away from DC Urban Moms while you still can. It's a trap!

She means size 18.

Lands End and they’re bombarding me with swimsuit sales now.

I like the hipster/high waisted bottoms from Athleta with a tankini top. I am long in the torso some sometime I just use Old Navy tops like these https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=723297 in tall—they are supportive and long enough to cover my belly. I wish Athleta would similarly embrace tall in their tankini sizing.

OP, you don't need it to be an actual bathing suit. Not if you don't want it to be. I'm your age. I'm much more comfortable in swim capris, any capris length parachute-like material pant and a T shirt (also called a rash guard if you get one specifically for swimming). More coverage, more modest. Why do women have to expose so much more of their bodies than men? Women's bathing suits are so much more revealing. I mean you can if you want to. But don't have to.

This is what my mother in law does at the beach and pool, and she seems to be more uncomfortable in all the clothing than she would be in a modest swimsuit. she has what is essentially a full length swim pant/shirt set.

She has admitted that she is more comfortable in the sports bra/rash guard/swim skirt combo I gave her from lands end, but still occasionally gets worked up about people seeing her varicose veins. I’ve told her many times before that she should not feel so badly about them, as no one should be that hard on themselves, and we all deserve to have leisure time and feel comfort wow while doing so. Wear the suit, enjoy yourself and stop worrying about what others think.

Does this work if you actually swim? I'd imagine it might get stretched out since it's not quite the same material as a swim suit.

Summersalt suit with a nice cover up could work. Their sizing goes up to 24.

I like to wear board shorts along with a sleeveless crew neck rash guard.

I think I got the board shorts from llbean and the rash guards from coolibar.

I go to the pool and beach to swim so I’m not hanging out in them. If I’m not in the water, I’ve got a towel wrapped around me. You might want to invest in a nice swim coverup like a dress like thing so you don’t have to spend much time revealing your body in your bathing suit.

I love the board shorts because they don’t ride up and I don’t have to shave.

I am five eight and about 174 pounds.

If you are more modest about wanting more bra support, you might like board shorts with a tankini top.

It varies. I’ve had this one, and it’s fine — and I actually swim in it (vs just wanting something cute). Not necessarily recommending this style, just pointing out that the support might vary with the swimsuit. I highly support (Ha!) the Lands End recommendations too.
