Definitely not. It could be used by schools to select the 1.5%. I think school has input into this process as well.

TJ's admissions office makes admissions decisions. Other schools have no input other than to verify a student's enrollment status.

Name a school that offers absolutely no STEM extracurriculars. When I checked, even the lowest SES middle schools had 2 or 3 STEM extracurriculars.

Even if some schools don't offer STEM ECs, then they should be considered within the 1.5% quota for the schools that do. Surely, a kid who is heavily involved and accomplished in STEM ECs from Carson is more deserving of a TJ slot than a kid who either didn't participate in or didn't accomplish anything in STEM ECs from Carson.

Agree particularly from Carson, Longfellow, Rocky Run, and Cooper

Some of the most creative thinkers are kids who spend a good deal of time independently reading and studying subjects of interest vs. competing in science Olympiad.

Before posting, read this actual FCPS regulation. It will accurately answer many questions vs speculation.

Thank you.

I, a parent of a hopefully admitted child, recommend that you not respond to this data request.
Protect your privacy.

Since a majority of applicants will be denied. There will be some who hope to contest the admissions process; which means that if you were admitted then the best option is to not disclose your child’s personal and private information.

Lastly, the comments here would not represent a randomized sample and this are not likely to reflect the true applicant pool.

Don't know how accurate it is. It says the below. Today is May 20th:

"(5) Starting with the Class of 2026, Applicant notification of the decisions
regarding admissions will be no later than April 30 each year."

Wishful thinking. They'll still be in court for years.

Dumb question, but is the 1.5% quota per middle school or per base high school?

1.5% of 8th grade students from each middle school. Some schools may get more since unused at school level goes to unallocated quota

Didn’t they remove historically disadvantaged schools? How does it impact 1.5%?

Yes - there are no longer experience points awarded for attending a historically underrepresented school. However, each school still gets its 1.5% quota. The HUS experience points would have only been relevant in determining the unallocated seats (i.e. the portion remaining after every school gets its quota).
