Wellesley consistently ranks in the top 5 among the US News LAC rankings but I hear about it for less than the others.
It seems like a great school- urban location, access to MIT/Olin/Babson, tons of opportunites, great alumnae network. I understand that being a women's college means less interest but it still receives roughly 75% of the applications of similarly ranked coed school. |
| I have boys and I still hear about it a lot! |
| I went there, it's a great school. Happy to answer any questions but obviously it was quite some time ago that I attended! |

It's not really urban. It's like Urbana. 30 minute ride on the f*** truck I mean weekend bus to Harvard/MIT.

OP, as you can see, DCUM tends to rely on rankings to educate themselves about colleges. DCUM would therefore not possibly know about the great colleges. There are tons of great colleges consistently left off of the rankings, and therefor not mentioned on DCUM. I do sometimes read the related posts, to see if anyone knowledgeable chimes in, but it never happens. Sometimes parents mention to each other the schools their kids are interested in, and that only causes those same students to apply to the same colleges, which is why I happen to feel it is so important not to share that part of the application process. I say this since most times, there is at least one college that the other parent would have never considered, and did not know about, IME. |
You have your answer right there. Less interest and no male applicants = reduced chatter. |
+1 It really is a top school, and the alum I know are extremely supportive of each other, they have an outstanding network, and they do not have the general cattiness and insecurities that many women seem to have with each other. |
| I hear about it. I know someone for whom it is a first choice and another applying next year. |
| Gorgeous campus and outstanding school! Wish DD were interested! |
Please enlighten us as to these great colleges. TIA |
| We are fed pro-diversity views & images 24/7. Maybe some people actually believe all this diversity hype, & think you need all kinds of people around you to have a well-rounded education? |
| Many women would never consider or attend a school from age 18-22 with no men. Prime dating years. It is just a fact. My daughters attended an all girls secondary school and would never even consider or discuss the option of attending a women’s college. |
| I will be blunt. My girls are not gay and want to be around guys so they will not look at AWC. |
My point exactly. Read the rest of the post. |
| We did the self-guided tour with DD two years ago. The students appeared to be very serious, no smiles or laughter. This alone made DD cross it off the list. We couldn’t convince her the prestige factor outweighed the dreariness. |
