| Or is it donezo? I saw something about how they are considering admissions processes for selective high schools as part of the new boundary study. |
| Hopefully … |
|
They only got rid of the exam because of the pandemic and now they won't bring it back.
Totally ridiculous--especially with the massive grade inflation in DCPS. Selective schools in NYC, Chicago, SF, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Milwaukee, and other cities all use an exam. Why not DC? |
Link? |
| Of course they will not bring it back ---- the people who actually vote in DC do not want to bring it back in the name of "equity"----and it also allows for "funny business" in the extremely opaque nature of Walls Admissions....the hilarious part is that the value of the school will be diluted over time, esp. if the racial preferences aspect of college admissions is struck down |
| How much grade inflation is actually happening at middle schools? My DS is getting straight As but his friends are getting As and Bs. Maybe a handful are getting straight As. |
Most are getting straight As. |
massive grade inflation in DCPS and many charters in 2021-22 due to pandemic equitable concerns.....accounts for the increased grade cutoff at Walls this year
|
Massive grade inflation. My Deal 7th grader slacked off and had C's in 5 classes of 6 this quarter (3rd) and spent ONE EVENING doing random worksheets and other missing work. Turned them all in the next day and once these assignments were entered she was back up to straight As. It's a complete joke. She and all her friends get straight As. |

They are never going to bring back the test for admissions. It’s all about equity and they want more kids from ward 7 and 8, definitely not ward 3.
If you are surprised by above, then you have not been paying attention. It’s a race to the bottom with honors for all, grade inflation, being able to re-take tests, 50% score for doing absolutely nothing, etc… |
They don't care about equity in NYC, Chicago, SF, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Milwaukee? |
Well, it's about 'equity', not equity. The grade inflation does no one any real good. It's just desperate window-dressing that trades short-term optics for actual learning. |
That has not been our experience. At DS’ school, they may allow late submissions if a day or two late. But beyond that, the most they can get is 70% and that’s if the got 100%. Many of my DS’ friends are getting Bs and Cs. |
There’s a lot of grade inflation at Walls as well so they will be fine. |
My kids schools (one charter one DCPS) both take late work with no penalty up until the end of the marking period. I have one kid who always turns things in on time anyway. The teachers are impressed? |
