Is walls ever bringing back the test for admissions?

You guys are funny. The teachers want to give your child a big old C if they deserve it. We can’t very well not give out F’s and then not inflate other kid’s grades. This is due to DCPS, I had 5 students who deserved an F and they missed 50-70 days of school. They made me pass them. MADE. Dcps is a joke, no penalty for missing that much school. Holding teens and families accountable isn’t equity, it’s garbage.

Doesn't that strike the non-UMC crowd here as incredibly biased? And they are a public school, remember, not a charter. I mean, I get that they need to bring in kids who aren't are performing at a high level. But 4.0 students? Come on!

It was actually a 3.87 (which is what my child had) but yes, darn close to a 4.0 and I doubt it will go lower in years to come.

Rinse and repeat..same thread every few weeks. It is what it is so adapt and move on. There may be an additional criteria for admission but won't be announced anytime soon.

People are moving on. Each year since the switch the sum of matched students at Walls plus the waitlist on match day has been lower (413 - 381 - 340), which means that an increasing number of the 500 students who make that initial cut are matching with a higher-ranked school. That’s what moving on looks like.

Yes, numbers will get lower and lower.

If you are surprised by above, then you have not been paying attention. It’s a race to the bottom with honors for all, grade inflation, being able to re-take tests, 50% score for doing absolutely nothing, etc…

They don't care about equity in NYC, Chicago, SF, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Milwaukee?

Philadelphia’s magnets are on a lottery system now.

This is not true! Deal’s honor roll and principal’s honor roll would be huge if that were the case.

False.

"Philadelphia school district officials announced Tuesday they will resume using state standardized test scores as a criterion for admission to the city’s most selective high schools for the class that will start ninth grade in September 2023...."

Philadelphia cares about equity and standards. Apparently, DC does not.

Just move or get involved in making changes! Complaining on an anonymous board does absolutely nothing.

People are voting with their feet.

Walls' yield has gone down since they did away with the admissions test.

Each class gets weaker and weaker.

At some point, if the admissions test doesn't return, Walls will cease being a true magnet school and just be open enrollment.

Honor roll is massive. Principal’s is not.

Both of Hardy's honor rolls are ginormous.

Maybe. No one will know for sure for a little while. A lot of families left DC during the pandemic. The numbers don't mean much, yet. As long as kids keep getting into good schools with merit aid, it will stay the same. That's not a good thing-it needs a refresh!
