Did your sons register for Selective Service when they turned 18? Nobody seems to talk about this anymore.
My 18 yr old son doesn't seem to think it's a big deal yet from what I've seen online, it's still required.... |
| Yes, of course. We're going to need conscripts for the coming war with Putin's Russia. |
| If he ever wants to work for the government, yes, it's kind of a big deal? They ask on every intake form. |
| I think you need to be able to say your registered to qualify for federal student loans. |
| It is required. My two young adult sons registered. Both had IEPs in HS and the case manager reminded us about doing it during the IEP meeting and the pre graduation meeting. |
| Yes |
| Why don't girls have to do it? |
| Thanks all - I'll keep up the reminders....(and add some of this other evidence!) |
Sexism and historical inertia. It should be required for everyone IMO. |
Patriarchy thinks they are too weak |
| Does the FASFA form ask if you have registered for the Selective Service? I seem to remember that for my sons. |
|
Yes, it's easy to do online. My husband didn't remember that he had done it and when he was 30 spent a year working at the VA. The first day he had to fill out a form indicating whether he had done it. He said no and it was a big deal until he actually went online to check and saw that he had (and even then they were still kind of mad at him for filling out his form wrong).
So do it, and make sure your kid remembers that he has done it. |
One time when we don't need to object |
| To be fair if you can save your country and fellow citizens, its a no brainer to volunteer but when its a pointless war, you question what are you risking your life for. |
| Needs to be mandatory for both men and women. |
