UGA is a peer now.

That’s funny. UGA needs to get ahead of Michigan, Florida, and UNC before it even has a crack at UVA.

Michigan and UNC are ahead of UVA.

Barely! and only as of this year! They are 3 and 4 on USNWR Best Colleges. UVA is no. 5. UVA was no 2 for 27 years. USNWR pulled it down because of the percentage of Pell Grants, which, as you know, UVA has no control over because Pell Grant eligibility is determined long after admission. Also, this year, even later because of the FAFSA mess.

And we all know that the percentage of Pell grants has nothing to do with student quality.

So is Florida.

Wasn't this thread about UGA and UVA??

My opinion is UVA is better academically but not as fun in any other way! UGA not as competitive but still great/competitive and 100x more fun.

If an equally qualified student goes to UGA rather than UVA, would there be any difference in outcomes on average?

My guess is probably not, but interested in what others think.

Anonymous wrote:I cannot imagine any college kid thinking Charlottesville was the better town. For those that think Charlottesville is a better town are you in your 50s? Athens is laid back southern but progressive with much better nightlife and an hour form Atlanta.

Athens has terrible crime.

+1. Charlottesville ranked A here for best places to live. Atlanta a C. https://www.niche.com/places-to-live/charlottesville-va/

College park is bad and Charlottesville also. Sounds like no college town is super safe. Ann Arbor bad as well.

Ann Arbor is not bad. Try going to visit there yourself instead of reading inaccurate information online.

But I doubt you are sticking up for schools that were similarly or more significantly impacted by the Pell emphasis. . .

So what about UF vs UGA?

I’m curious about this also. Is UF more difficult to get into OOS than UGA?

Ranked about the same as UMD. Big like UMD and Wisconsin. (UVA is much smaller).

Um, when I lived in NYC, I was a member of the Yale Club because UVa and Dartmouth share a clubhouse with them.

Plus, the oldest alumni polo match in the country is organized by alums from Yale and UVa.

Why does Charlottesville a unique mystique? Is it the secret societies?

This isn’t relevant to the question of whether Charlottesville is better than Athens.
