why does not one talk about wellesley college?

More bot/politics? This doesn't make sense, and Wellesley is need based for financial aid.

I went there and was pretty social at MIT and nearby schools, but nowhere near anything like my kids had at bigger coed schools. Still, if you want a great education and a lifelong network of sisters, it’s a wonderful place.

If you visit and love the vibe, it should work out for you. If you pick it for ratings or because you don’t get into an Ivy, or because your dad wants you to go, I don’t recommend it.

Drives away each melancholy care!

I'm also an alumna and agree with the above, though I'd say that social life at all coed schools -- not only bigger schools -- is better than at Wellesley. At least that's my observation based on my DD's experience at a NESCAC peer to WC. If I could crank up that time machine and get a do-over on my college choice, I'd go to a coed SLAC.

The only students not at Wellesley now are cis men. That just feeds into the anti “woke” people, but that’s fine with me. Let them stay away!

I don't agree exactly on the facts, although I fully concur with the sentiments expressed! Transgender males are not accepted. Their policy is that only women are accepted as students, so women who have transitioned to men, (or are in the process) are not accepted at Wellesley College. They will work with current students to complete their degrees. This liberalizes the former policy of counseling F=>M transitioners to find a way leave Wellesley College as soon as possible.

DC’s classmate’s grandma went there. She is one of (if not the) most impressive women I have ever met. The best presidential candidate we have had in decades and a former first lady

The students wanted to accept trans men and voted on it. But the college did not. I think they are the only one of the 7 sisters schools that doesn’t. But I don’t think they leave as soon as possible. I’m pretty sure they are allowed to complete their degrees.

So much misinformation on this thread. Can’t say I am that surprised!

PP here Yes, they are now allowed to compete their degrees at Wellesley.

Wellesley students who have transitioned while at the school have always been allowed to complete their degrees. What the school doesn't do is admit cis men or people who already identify as transmen, and frankly, people who already identify as transmen but apply to women's colleges anyway and then, once there, complain about exclusion in the form of campus-wide female pronouns are self-entitled, self-absorbed, misogynistic jerks.

It seems like a great school- urban location, access to MIT/Olin/Babson, tons of opportunites, great alumnae network. I understand that being a women's college means less interest but it still receives roughly 75% of the applications of similarly ranked coed school.

It’s basic math.

Parents of boys are not considering (or showing “interest” in) this college, as it is for women-only. So of course you’re going to hear less about it! Half the applicant pool is excluded from the get-go. 🙄

Your DC goes to school with one of Chelsea’s kids? They’re super young. What are you doing on this college board? I’m genuinely curious.

I know it is high school, but NCS completely stopped addressing the students as girls or young women in all correspondence, when speaking. Etc. They are now “students.” I heard the trans/non-binary kids complained about being referred to as girls. Well, you are enrolled at an all girl’s school.

They are ranked 5? How does a school that discriminates against an entire gender be ranked that high?

It ranks #5 on this ranking, too, and it includes all the universities!

This one looks at diversity (well, other than male students, obviously), classroom experience and student satisfaction, so Wellesley must do well in these areas in addition to those measured by US News. Women's colleges did really well in general on this list:

Scripps #4
Mt. Holyoke #11
Bryn Mawr #13
Smith #20
Barnard #26

Wellesley has always been a top LAC, and one of the Seven Sisters - which I never hear mentioned on DCUM. It seems posters are not familiar with the school.

The alum network is one of the best I have experienced, and the alums are more supportive of each other than most, especially women, professionally. If you have worked with Wellesley alums, you know first hand.

OP's post is very strange, and uninformed. What is your real issue with Wellesley college, OP? Were you not accepted?

If you don’t want to go there, don’t apply! You won’t be happy if you go there only because of the ranking or prestige. Many people love it. Wellesley is not hurting for applicants or matriculation so I don’t understand what the debate is. If you don’t want single sex college then apply elsewhere. There’s tons of reasons to choose Wellesley but anyone that needs convincing to go there it probably isn’t the place for you.
