Billionaire Shipping Mogul Angela Chao's death

Her parents stories are interesting. Both came from extreme poverty in China, particularly her mother.

You have to respect the hard work it took her Dad and Mom to build the shipping business.

Right, but apparently that's not gonna work on a Tesla window - so don't buy a Tesla.

Buying a Tesla now is so dumb. They are junk

Those are convincing reasons. Are you 10?

Or her friends.

To send a message to her BIL. We shortly thereafter endorsed the insurrectionist.

You're an idiot. It was also right before
Chinese New Year. Was that a message to the Chinese?

Her car had stalks for gear shifting. Was not a new model.

Could it be foul play? Also, they couldn't break the windows to the Tesla to save her. I guess that is a drawback of tempered glass. Very sad for the children and spouse and seems so preventable.

Not tempered glass. Laminated. Common in nearly half all new cars on the road, not just Tesla.

I have the same car and it would be as likely as putting any car in reverse. The difference is that the gear shift is on a screen, but the icon starts in the center when in park. You slide it up about 3 inches to go forward and down about 3 inches to reverse. I can’t really see getting them mixed up. Also as soon as you put it in reverse, a ton of back up cameras (reverse and then 2 more screens pop up for each reverse side). It would be impossible to not know you were in reverse before you even took your foot off the brake.

Her model had a traditional stalk.

The car? No car is.

Doors won’t open due to water pressure if submerged. Most nicer new cars have laminated windows on side doors these days. Literally no different than any other car.

I read she had a model with a gear shift stalk, not a digital one. And Tesla’s doors can open manually without power if you do it in time. So again, like any other car.

Most of us have been driving for decades with cars that had very similar features, and there is a lot of muscle memory that we are using that allows us to make quick decisions. Changing the gear shift to a screen introduces so many unnecessary potential problems. I can see tapping the wrong place if you are making a three point turn. Add in that she maybe was a little tired and maybe had a drink or two and the accident seems very possible.

My Tesla doesn’t have that but one thing that drives me nuts is that the wipers are in the screen. So if I get caught in a sudden downpour I need to look away from the road to look at the screen to press at least two different screen buttons. I hate that.

Hold on- the wipers don't come on automatically when rain starts? I thought the door handles were the stupidest thing about them. I guess I was wrong.

This just sounds like a dumb car created in an echo chamber of tech lovers. Kind of a Darwin awards thing- it doesn't compute to create/drive a vehicle where you have to look away from the road for simple actions like wipers/changing gears.

Yes the wipers come on automatically assume you have them on auto, which is the default.

The water surrounding the car made the firefighters’ tools ineffective. The risk of electrocution also delayed the towing of the vehicle out of the water. Add to that the total darkness of the pond, remoteness of the location and rough terrain making it harder to get to the site (24 minutes for firefighters to get there after the call to emergency services) means she never had a chance.

The Tesla manual for emergency responders says there is NO heightened risk to electrocution and to treat it as you would any vehicle.

Or over 1/3 of new cars according to a 2019 AAA report.

Laminated glass is NOT specific to Tesla.

Seriously. Was never a Tesla fan before, but can't believe people are still so enamored by them.

What does this have to do with Tesla? Laminated glass is common on many new cars in 2024. All of new cars have power windows that don’t roll down after they short circuit underwater.

The Tesla windows are reinforced. The article said the tools firefighters normally use to break windows did not work.

Over 1/3 of new cars today have laminated windows just like Tesla’s.

That's not how she died or why. Her parents made their money shipping humans in cargo ship containers. And other stuff.

As for the Tesla story, don't know but I do know this :

"The problem with driving these fancy Teslas with all their gadgets is that, they can remote control your vehicle and kill you. No one will know about it, because it looks like an accident. All these EVs are hackable. It’s a psyop product, one of many designed to kill you."

Buyer beware.
