Yup. BAC three times the legal limit.

A lot of questions here as to why?
Anonymous
lol to the poster who thinks because she went to Harvard she wasn’t the type to get drunk.

To send a message to her BIL. We shortly thereafter endorsed the insurrectionist.

She called her friends from inside the car and told them what had happened…that she accidentally put the car in reverse.

Oh that is so sad. Everyone needs that glass breaking tool in their cars.

I don’t know why anyone is surprised by this.

“ Due to the type of strengthened glass used in the Model X's windows and sunroof, attempts to smash into the vehicle proved redundant. ”

The water surrounding the car made the firefighters’ tools ineffective. The risk of electrocution also delayed the towing of the vehicle out of the water. Add to that the total darkness of the pond, remoteness of the location and rough terrain making it harder to get to the site (24 minutes for firefighters to get there after the call to emergency services) means she never had a chance.

The Tesla manual for emergency responders says there is NO heightened risk to electrocution and to treat it as you would any vehicle.

I’m sure now that they have seen battery fires go on for three days they are inclined to follow the manual to the letter.

All she had to do was take her foot off the accelerator when she realized the error and the car stops. She must have gunned it and kept her foot on.

Right, but apparently that's not gonna work on a Tesla window - so don't buy a Tesla.

+1
Buying a Tesla now is so dumb. They are junk

Seriously. Was never a Tesla fan before, but can't believe people are still so enamored by them.

What does this have to do with Tesla? Laminated glass is common on many new cars in 2024. All of new cars have power windows that don’t roll down after they short circuit underwater.

All rthe new technology in the tesla, except no float technology.

Is it possible to have a manual way to roll down windows in addition to the electric?

Maybe cars need a secret escape hatch for submersion.

This has been an issue with submerged cars for a long time. It's why they invented those glass hammer devices you should have in your car. People drown in flash flood because of this, and you need to know what kind of glass on each window.

I know a lot of people who are just fine with high BAC numbers. Also, are you sure the medical report hasn't been tampered with for political purposes?

Anonymous wrote:Once the car is fully submerged, terrifying as this thought is, should one be able to open a door since the water pressure is now equal inside and out?

Can you open a Tesla door manually, with no fingerprints/electric capacity needed? The few times I’ve ridden in a Tesla I was confused about how to open the dang doors.

The Tesla has an emergency release open for the doors, but water pressure could prevent it from opening. That can happen with any car submerged in water. I’ve heard that you’re supposed to crack open a window before it gets submerged.

Do people know where the release is? I know that the Tesla emergency rear seat door release is not easy to access. It would probably be impossible to get out the back seat passengers in time even if the driver got out. That’s good to know about the reinforced glass. We have a Tesla and will need to find out what it would take to break it.

Also, once the water fills up inside, the pressure equalizes, and you can open the door of a car. But you have to stay calm. keep your head above water until the last possible moment and have the presence of mind to know you can open the door once the water is filled in.

From AAA:

Drivers should also remember that if the vehicle is submerged:

o If a window will not open or cannot be broken because it is laminated, everyone should move to the back of the vehicle or wherever an air pocket is located. Stay with it until all of the air has left the vehicle. Once this happens, the pressure should equalize, allowing occupants to open a door and escape.

o A hammer-style escape tool (as opposed to a spring-loaded-style) could be much harder to swing underwater.

Most of us have been driving for decades with cars that had very similar features, and there is a lot of muscle memory that we are using that allows us to make quick decisions. Changing the gear shift to a screen introduces so many unnecessary potential problems. I can see tapping the wrong place if you are making a three point turn. Add in that she maybe was a little tired and maybe had a drink or two and the accident seems very possible.

My Tesla doesn’t have that but one thing that drives me nuts is that the wipers are in the screen. So if I get caught in a sudden downpour I need to look away from the road to look at the screen to press at least two different screen buttons. I hate that.

The wipers should be set to automatic. I've never touched a screen for the wipers.

Oh, for crying out loud. When you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras. Enough with the wacky conspiracy theories. Drunk driver has accident and dies. That's the simplest and most logical explanation.

Nonsense. Nobody drives safely at a BAC of .233. That’s very drunk. Why would anyone tamper with the medical report? What political purposes? The initial reports indicated that she had been drinking.

Just curious: what are the exact circumstances under which you came to know the driving ability of “a lot” of people with BACs of 0.233 or above?
