Don't like Ann curry as cohost

I gotta agree. Ann is too serious of a journalist to be a "morning show" host. She's gotta learn to relax and enjoy things and not be so self-conscious. Maybe it's a confidence issue, but after her reporting from all over the world, I didn't think that would be an issue...

One possibility that an Asian friend raised was that we might not "perceive" her emotions the same way. When your race or appearance is sufficiently different, their emotional expressions may seem duller, boring, more threatening, etc.

Even then, I think that's more of a subconscious thing.

Her personality simply isn't that suited for morning show, which calls for silliness/party gal, kinda thing more often than journalism. Katie had it in spades, Meredith pulled it off with an experienced touch from the View, Ann... still needs work.

Her 'serious' interviews are embarrassing. What signals are you sending when you cover your head during an interview with President Mahmoud Ahmedinajad while you're wearing 4 inch stripper heels? The low, 'soothing' voice meant to convey sympathy just comes across as condescending.

And Jenna: why do they even let her do eating segments when she never puts anything in her mouth? And we get it -- she's the most fit and athletic female anchor ever. It's really not necessary to wear sleeveless tops all winter just to show off your toned arms!

I have watched the first hour of the TODAY show on podcast every day for the last 3 years. I cannot stand Ann Curry!

She can barely make it through a sentence with out fumbling and her sense of humor is AWFUL. She can't even remember the name of the co-anchor anytime Matt is off.

Give the anchor chair to Savannah Guthrie. When Ann has a day off Savannah is excellent and outshines her in every way.

I totally agree. There is absolutely zero chemistry between Matt and Ann. He seems embarrassed by her when she is trying to be funny. I need a perky, fun, intelligent woman to grab my interest and help me wake up rather than make me yawn. I hope the NBC execs are reading these comments. Savannah is their girl!!!!

There were rumors a few weeks ago that Matt is planning to leave this year. Wonder if it's true? I actually like Matt, and he and Savannah have much better chemistry than Matt and Ann. Wasn't so sure about Savannah in the beginning, but she has really excelled on the show. Have always liked Natalie too, and I also like the woman that fills in sometimes, Tamara Hall I think her name is? She's also on MSNBC.

I watcher her this morning with a great screw-up. They are celebrating their 60th anniversary, and they had her reading "the most important part of the show - you." She was supposed to address the audience, but she said it to Matt. Matt said, "me?" and she answered, "yes." Then Matt and Al corrected her. She is just awful.

I completely agree about Ann, in fact this is an old thread and I posted awhile back about how much I didn't like her. But I have started to feel a bit differently after I spoke to my friend who works at NBC in New York. She says that Ann is the nicest and just wants to be accepted by her fellow cast mates (perhaps that is part of her awkward desperation!) My friend also talked about how she normally has to avoid eye-contact with the "talent" but that Ann goes out of her way to be friendly to everyone. Whilst I don't think she is a great on air personality for some reason the fact that she treats people with respect off camera no matter what their position is something I have a lot respect for. Though I also heard Meredith was a mean bitch and it doesn't make me miss her any less!

Ann Curry is without a doubt the most phony, disingenuous person on National News. Every comment she makes sounds fake. Also - I can tell you as a long time freelancer for NBC and the Today show - that she is a complete diva pain and why they would give her this job the world may never know.....that is until someone climbs to the top of the building next door to prove how they feel!

I completely agree and cannot believe that there are not more people who do. I think that Ann Curry looks 'fake' to some people b/c she is 'faking' being a pop personality and is trying hard to 'fit in' w/ folks who don't share her intelligence and personality. I believe she is sincere and caring, but doesn't think that just being herself would convey that so she overcompensates and goes overboard. I think she tops Savannah and Natalie many times over in intelligence, and Matt as well, to an extent. I have always thought Savannah and Natalie come off a bit too ditzy to be delivering any real news, although I think Savannah is very intelligent, she hides it better than Ann. The Today Show, IMO, has really reduced the amount of 'real news' it includes and has 'dumbed down' the entire show over the last few years. The public doesn't like superintelligent women with a serious side and they all know this. I think Ann was much more genuine when she was the news reader and filled in as host. I think she may be being 'coached' poorly to fit the role they think people want her to fill. I wish Savannah would put the sorority girl side of her away and let a bit of her inner nerd out. Katie had the perfect balance of intelligence and 'popular' presence/personality w/o the ditziness, but that is sooo hard to find. Agree the chemistry of Matt/Ann isn't great, but nobody else strikes me as a great fit, either, compared to Katie or Merideth, who I didn't like at first but grew to appreciate. I can see Al Roker being a self centered egomaniac.

Are you being serious or sarcastic with the statement that Ann Curry "overcompensates" for "folks who don't share her intelligence..."? She seems to lack the natural talent for the job. Her questions to guests are clearly scripted so that she does not need to do much thinking on her feet. Way too often her follow up questions do not match the guest's answers. It's not clear whether she does not do her homework on topics or just is not bright and informed. It does not make sense that in the "real news" segments of the show that producers would encourage her to look and act so out of place.

UGH! Cannot stand her. I'm another former Today Show viewer, after I realized that I was leaving the house each morning in a bad mood and it was Ann Curry who just irritated me into grumpiness. She and Jenna Wolf could shuffle off the tv and i'd be so happy. Seriously, NBC, you've got Morales, Guthrie, or Hall. But who's making the decisions over there at Scheinhart Wigs anyway? They shelve Community after running it against the number one comedy, and then get rid of the excellent Prime Suspect after running it against the very well established Mentalist. ARGH!
