Husband is considering a job in LA. Are there any places where we could get a 4-bedroom house for around $700,000 in a nice community with good schools within an hour commute of downtown? |
Probably not |
Try east Pasadena or Sierra madre (end of gold line) |
This is OP. what about the Santa Clarita area? Is the commute too long? |
405 and 5 traffic is awful. |
Pasadena is beautiful but schools can be iffy. South Pasadena is nice too. San Marino has a great school system but prices are high. You can also try La Canada, great school system. |
+1 for La Canada |
Claremont and Upland, but the commute would be pushing it. Try Pasadena. |
Yes for La Canada! I grew up there. Definitely have great schools. But there's no way you can get a 4-bedroom for $700K. A 3-bedroom maybe, but not a 4-bedroom. |
Check out Huntington Beach. Mission Viego. Ladera Ranch. |
It really depends on where your DHs job is. LA is a big place. Santa Clarita is cheaper but its farther away and a lot of people are moving there and commuting to dtla and elsewhere. There is one freeway in and out. So traffic sucks! And if there is an accident it sucks worse.
Do you have kids? Have you looked up the schools? |
By downtown I mean really downtown. |
Are you both working? If not, what's DH limit commute. Traffic sucks. Schools and housing costs are better further out. Like any big city. |
I hope to be working -- I'm an attorney and currently work full-time -- but would probably be moving without a job. I don't think I'd want him to have to commute more than an hour -- I don't want to make our life even harder than it is here.
He probably wouldn't be commuting during normal rush hours, if that makes any difference. |
You would need to take the state bar unless you go in house. |
