Does anyone else think that Kate Middleton's wedding dress was a little dull?

WaPo article about the royal wedding influences:

I personally thought it was stunning. She looked beautiful and sexy - which is not easy in a gown with sleeves (which, as someone pointed out above, were a prerequisite).

I liked her hair and make-up. The dress was mostly ok but I thought it made her chest look weird, kind of dumpy.

Elegant, understated and flattering for her beautiful figure. It also reflects that she is much older than Diana was when she got married. Kate chose perfectly and she looked classic today.

Speaking of dresses, what was Posh Spice wearing and does she ever smile?

Elegant and classy.

Probably one of her own designs, apparently like a number of the people there (Meredith Vieira said she was wearing a Victoria Beckham dress). She looks quite pregnant with #4. DB looked amazing.

I think she looked lovely within the guidelines she pretty much had to follow. I am not sure any train longer than what she had would look good, really - Diana's was so crazy over the top.

Now, if she were a normal bride, I would have gotten rid of the sleeves and gone much more form fitting. Pippa's dress would have looked amazing on her as well.

I personally would have put a little color into the dress, but I wore a dress with a pastel beaded flower bodice, so I always think dresses could use a little color. I find most wedding dresses a bit boring.

I think she got the rules and the tone right with this dress, even if it was slightly underwhelming. I think she was going for elegant and slightly understated so as not to offend people.

Seriously, poor girl had a lot of rules, spoken and unspoken, to follow.

I didn't like her dress. She looked lovely, though, and I thought her makeup and hair looked fantastic. Personally, I think she should have done something more like Oscar de la Renta's wedding dress that Jenna Bush wore. Perhaps with long sleeves. Does anyone know why Pippa got away with cap sleeves and Kate couldn't? I loved Pippa's dress.

I thought it was refreshing to see a bride not trying to be "sexy" or too revealing on her wedding day. I know the sleeves were required, but I do not believe they detracted at all from her beauty.

She is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. She doesn't become Princess of Wales until Charles becomes King.

Actually, not precisely true. I could go on and on about the rules on this, but in addition to being Duchess, she is The Princess William by virtue of her marriage. (Note, NOT "Princess Catherine"--despite the press calling Diana "Princess Diana", the only princesses who are "Princess FirstName" are princesses by birth.)

She is not the Princess of Wales because that spot is taken by Camilla (who is never called that, she is called Duchess), but as William's wife, she is now the female equivalent of each of his titles, including Prince.

This is exactly what I was going to say. If she were not marrying into the royal family, my guess is that her dress would have been much modern, possibly strapless or form-fitting, but that wasn't an option here. With the requirements levied on her, it was gorgeous.

I loved the veil and LOVED her sister's dress. Beatrice and Eugenie, however, seriously need a stylist. ugh.

I noticed the makeup was heavy, too, but my guess was that it was partly to not look washed out to the estimated 2 billion people watching online or on tv.

Di's dress looked like it was made from piles of bed sheets. And it was terribly wrinkled. I have always hated it. Kate look beautiful and simple. She does not want to be a celebrity, she just wants to be a wife to William, so that is why she wore something conservative.

Yes, the veil was a bit limp but dress suited her as she is not some pretending to be a virginal fairy princess as Diana was. Diana dress was NOT horrible, PP. What bitch you are. Kate is what 28? Openly living with the guy, too? Please, her dress was tastefully simple in light of the foregoing. Overly glamorous haute couture would have been appalling. Besides, it offset William's gorgeous red uniform perfectly. Good for them!

Who was the perplexed looking one with the obvious nose job--any know?

I thought Kate looked timeless and Diana looked overdone. When you are that gorgeous you don't need a frou frou dress.
