Does anyone else think that Kate Middleton's wedding dress was a little dull?

Late to the party. Sorry.
I thought Kate's dress was stodgy. Looked like a nightgown set from a Doris Day movie. And, the veil?
Looked like the veils Mother Theresa wore.
I find Kate boring and the dress and veil the same.

Loved it. I love lace and hate the off the shoulder look.

Raw silk is naturally wrinkled that way. Obviously you know very little about fabric. But I'm sorry you have had to carry around your hatred of a person's wedding dress for over 30 years...

Diana's dress wasn't made of raw silk, but of silk taffeta. Raw silk is a mostly matte fabric: http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/94167/Raw-Silk-Fabric.jpg
Taffeta is crisp and has a bit of shine.

whatever, taffeta has a folded, bunchy look to it, and you're a loony to drag this thread out a year later to make a distinction without a difference about fabric that is naturally wrinkly. Stick to polyester if you don't like wrinkles.

I don't know why the thread was dragged out of mothballs, as it were, and I'm not the PP you were talking to, but, no, taffeta isn't a bunchy looking fabric. Diana's dress looked so wrinkly because, as an author I read once wrote, her designers were inexperienced with a dress of that caliber and didn't take into account the tiny carriage she would be riding in. Everything got smushed. It had a charming effect, though.

Well, Diana sure wasn't boring.

First of all, how can we honestly even call something "timeless"? I'm sure no one in the 80's said "this is very '80's'". It was just a style. To them, it may have been "timeless" but to us it is "dated".

Since none of us have a crystal ball, we cannot tell what the future trends will be, so before we label something as "timeless" we should consider that.

That being said, Kate's dress was a bit boring, but I'm sure if she wore something overly showy, we would be saying how she is "spending so much" or being a show off.

KM is not exactly the most interesting person herself ...... so maybe the dress was a good match!

Holy Rip Van Winkle, PP. You are look at the 2011 dress from a 2014 perspective. Try to look at in light of 2011 fashion.

For real! This thread is dead and then some. Let it go already.

If you want to discuss Kate's fashion at least talk about what she wore post partum (and it's already been beaten to death).

Love this thread -even considering how old it is! I was stunned when I saw the dress- it was a big "yawn"- and we have seen it before! It was a dress from 1978....that everyone wore. They made a ton of mistakes.
1. the a line style tried to give her a shape. It didn't.
2. The lace was overshadowed by too much lace- if that makes any sense. The visible translucent lace should have been larger and entirely on the upper shoulders and sleeves. Not anywhrer else.
That neckline was so cliche- no style at all.

There was some talk about her inspiration being Grace of Monaco's dress. No - it wasn't. That was a lot of style- this was not.

Her dress was basic. Run of the mill. It could be found in a thousand dress shops even before she made it "famous". There was nothing royal about that dress. Kate is pretty but as other posters said she is just pretty. There is nothing overly gorgeous (IMO) about her. Km is basic and very "plain Jane"

When were you last looking at wedding dresses? Because you are certainly entitled to think her dress boring, but that style was long dead until she revived it.

14:55 here. My point was that, if you wanted a lace bodice and sleeve combo you could have it. It was around, just boring.
