Wife's bad breath, doesn't shower enough

Anonymous
If you shower at 8am on Tuesday morning, have a bowel movement that afternoon, and then your partner wants to perform oral that evening or the following morning, you don't need to wash off the residue from the BM with soap and water first? Can't you get sick from ingesting trace amounts of the E Coli? Even if the partner isn't performing oral, won't they smell that BM residue as well as the mustiness of your private zone having been wrapped in clothing all day and sweating? I recently saw an add for a deodorant to use for under boob and private zones. Are you saying that's a useless and unnecessary product for people who want to avoid showering before intimacy? There is more going on down there that creates an odor besides the V itself.

I'm also wonder whether OP's wife always this casual about hygiene or is this something that changed over the years?

The best thing I ever did was get a bidet to replace our regular toilet seat. It has warm water and even a drying function. You can clean thoroughly after a BM with it, so no second shower that day is needed before intimacy.

Women have to be careful with bidets. They can flow excrement to the labia and into the vaginal opening area.

Why did you revive a 6 year old thread?

My bidet has two options, one for flow to the front and one for the back.

Has anyone ever heard of an excess of infections among women in Japan or other countries where bidets are very popular? I have not.

OP here. She probably showers first thing in the morning MOST days. Thing is, she never makes any effort to clean up before potential relations occur. The other day we went to bed early, which usually portends intimacy. When I get close she forewarns against anything getting to intense, as she hasn't showered that day. If this were only occasionally, it wouldn't be a big deal, but is it too much to rinse off in the shower before heading to bed every now and then. I certainly do...

First the problem was she showers every other day, and now it's that she doesn't shower twice a day? It sounds like you have some squeamishness around natural body odors if she showered in the morning but you'd like her to "freshen up" again before sex, and you do the same. That's overkill.

+1

And the thing is, high disgust response is a sexually dimorphic trait, one that is usually found in women. As such, women are majorly turned off by "squeamish" men- it comes off as not very heterosexual or masculine. A guy who cant get erection because his wife only showered a few hours ago instead of minutes before? Very unattractive. You may want to check if you have low T, OP. I know my boyfriend is all over me on the few days when I dont shower first thing in the morning. If we're lazily laying in bed and it's been over a day since my shower, and you can start smelling the natural "scent", he goes crazy for it, to put it in PG terms. I would say most high sex drive men are like this, so you're truly making yourself look like a bit of a loser.

mm if there's one thing the screams "gay" it's not a wanting sex.

Not for me. I’m a woman and I usually shower twice a day. I do workout in during the day, so I guess that makes sense. Waxing is also a must. I got a wax 6 weeks postpartum after each of my three kids. And I work full time. I’m not a SAHM.

Your wife may be depressed or she may not be that into you right now or she may have serviceable but not great hygiene. Broach this gently with her but broach it.

https://www.healthline.com/health/are-bidets-sanitary#research-findings

The big concern about bidet use boils down to bacteria and viral organisms that can be present in a bidet’s nozzle. A 2017 study of a university hospital in Japan found that 254 out of 292 bidet toilets were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., or other organisms.
...
A 2010 study of 268 women found that habitual use of bidet toilets may disrupt healthy vaginal microflora. Normal microflora (Lactobacillus spp.) was not found in 42.86 percent of bidet users, compared to 8.77 percent of people who did not use bidets. In addition, out of the 268 women, fecal bacteria were detected in 46 of the bidet users and in only 4 of the nonusers.

If you’re pregnant, you may want to carefully consider the decision to use a bidet. A 2019 study showed that pregnant women deemed to be “high-risk” who used a bidet regularly were more likely to give birth prior to their due dates.

Bad breathe and not showering every day are legitimate complaints.

Keeping things trim and clean? Gross. Don't police her pubic hair. It exists in its natural state for a reason. it helps trap bacteria dn other things before they get to the vagina.

Well, if you read the other threads around here apparently wiping one's @$$-- if you are a man -- screams it even more than not wanting sex.

That depends. If she has a stinky backside, then yea, I’d also avoid.

Easy.

“Babe—you probably don’t realize it, and I love you too much not to tell you—but lately I’ve noticed that your breath is not good. I don’t want you to be embarrassed but it’s pretty noticeable to I wanted to let you know so you can fix it.”

I actually had a date text me to say I had bad breath. Reading that text was embarrassing , but I went to the dentist a few days later and scheduled a Star Wars laser beam teeth cleaning. It took two visits. It included a lot of gum work. The dentist said I had minor gum disease that made my breath smell bad. Much better now.

Waterpik/ oral irrigation. Washes away food particles that cause bad breath. After brushing w electric brush, there are still food particles in my mouth that it removes. Great for gum health too.
