Sorry ☹️

Mine was just rejected at Bryn Mawr. Waitlisted at Haverford. Her acceptances are at public in-state schools that she is not currently excited about. She has one more decision coming and is feeling scared that it will be another rejection or waitlist.

If so: we will visit the publics and I will do my best to generate excitement.

I don't know if it helps, but the way I see it is sort of a dating scenario. Both parties need to want each other for the relationship to work. Bryn Mawr's loss.

Same for my DS. And rejected from Tufts today. It’s been a tough March for us. The safeties and targets are good, but it hurts.

A piece of advice for those with younger kids: when you think about how many schools to apply to, consider how many rejections your child’s self-esteem can withstand.

Rejected from Carnegie Mellon (after a week of decision delays). Happy to be moving on.

The head of college counseling at my kid's private school made this exact point to a gathering of parents.

The school has run the stats and found that kids who apply to 20 schools vs 10 basically get the same number of admits but have to deal with the mental fall-outs of a lot of rejections. Those rejections can color the entire experience--even if the kid gets into a decent option in the end. Kids and parents way underestimate the pain of rejection. She deals with the emotional fall-out when the kids come to her when the dust has settled--often with a decent option but feeling like absolute crap.

Rejected from USC. Kid is bummed but I’m kind of glad I don’t have to deal with the distance.

It’s all so unpredictable though. We got rejected/waitlisted at schools that CCO had called “likelies” and got two acceptances at reaches. I feel like casting a wide net saved us. We literally had nothing as of Thursday because none of EA worked out and I was a wreck. Now we have 3 good acceptances.

Swarthmore after an unexpected invitation to Junior Visit Day. If other kid gets one of those invites, too, we’ll skip it.

This is so true. Rejections are hard to handle for the kids even if they say they are moving on. Our college counselor said the same thing -- if you think your kid can handle many rejections then by all means apply. but if not be careful about your choices.
