Didn't I read that the "guaranteed transfer" is part of some strategy to boost their selectivity numbers?

No idea. Definitely a strategy to boost avg gpa.

Honestly I think it's more of a strategy to make more money. Despite all the hype about NEU, their Forbes financial rating is a 3.52, which is an A-, but only 2 hundredths of a point from a B+. A ton of small liberal arts colleges many on here have never heard of have higher financial ranks. Their marketing grew them fast in an expensive area beyond their means and are needing as many tuition dollars as they can to actually build capacity--hence the distributed locations, guaranteed transfers etc.

+1

Their per-student endowment figure is pathetic.

It definately is about them making $$$. NUIn is essentially Spring start but you must attend NEU overseas location first. Global Scholars is essentially "guaranteed transfer" but once again NEU gets to benefit financially from your first year. GS was over $85K 2 years ago for London, and no meals included. It's genius marketing on their part.

So consider yourself lucky and move on to your next best choice (assuming you got "global scholars" or whatever they are currently calling it---go to London/Oakland for a semester each then return to Boston)

They didn't offer anything global. I was surprised.

Are you telling me NEU now does "Guaranteed Sophomore transfer in" but you don't have to attend NEU freshman programs? If so, that is quite shocking, as they need to fill their London/Oakland campuses and that's what those are for largely

What do you care, though? How does this affect you? Never mind. We know.

Shocked me too. It said you have to attend any accredited college and maintain a 3.0. Then you can come fall of ‘25. We actually would’ve been open to London campus and checked that on the app. But it was not offered.

Rejected from Univ of Chicago after being deferred EA. This is my kid’s first rejection, so it stings. Fingers crossed for at least one piece of good news over the next few weeks.

Just waiting on my rejection from Carnegie Mellon (still no decision yet, even though they were supposed to be released at 5pm).
