I’m sorry. Does your DC have other options?

My kid worked so hard-- multiple APs, good grades, high ACT (though this doesn't count). Also hired a professional to read their essays. I don't know what else we could have done.

UCB and UCSB are not out yet so we are hoping to get at least one, but we have tempered expectations. But I have some relief as we have UIUC and UT Austin acceptances. But OOS costs are crazy.

What's UIUC?

Oh. U of I, you mean.

PP is correct. UI is University of Iowa.

Rejected from UC Santa Barbara. Just waiting on UC Berkeley now.

Pretty upset by these UC rejections, but also grateful for the UT Austin and UIUC acceptances. Right now we are leaning towards UIUC!

UIUC and UT Austin are great choices my DC would love to have. Campuses are different vibes though. UIUC is in the middle of no where. Like literally 2 hour drive to fly home. Austin has a much better city vibe. Austin has a lot of high tech companies too for internships. Just something to consider and see what your student prefers.

Just call it Illinois as it is the state flagship.

PP used the correct acronym, let it go.

Assuming you are OOS (since on the DCUM forums). If so, the acceptance rate for OOS CS at UW is 2%. Essentially one of the hardest tickets to punch anywhere

You could do that. But locals call it U of I.

She did not. She used some made-up DCUM acronym.

California parent back again—

We actually have family in IL and know “U of I” but others may not… at least when I speak to non-midwesterners, some have no clue what I’m talking about.

Not a DCUM acronym at all. It's referred to as UIUC because there are two other UI in the Big 10 (now big 20+)---Iowa and Indiana. They also have a UI Chicago campus (and Springfield I believe as well). So it helps identify the main campus within the state. It's been referred to that way for decades. Just because you are not aware of that does not make it false

Rejected from Hopkins RD.

Rejected from University of Chicago and WashU. Still waiting on three more. Fingers crossed. She's in at safeties/targets but is less excited about them.
Anonymous
Bryn Mawr RD. Bummed because it seemed like a really good fit and could definitely see her there. Three more to go before this roller coaster ride is over. Ugh.

No rejections. WL Hopkins. Deferred Georgetown.

In everywhere else so far.
