A People's Choir DC will be hosting an outdoor sing-along as part of DC Art All Night! Join us to sing eight classic songs. We'll bring the lyrics! Though we are usually a bar event, we are holding two sing-alongs as part of Art All Night and would love to see some families at our earlier (8pm) event! The Workshop will highlight the key verbal – reading/writing/language – math and mindset strategies that have proven so effective in our tutorial prep programs. It's Fire Prevention Week! Do You Know How to Protect Your Family? In conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, Vienna Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual Open House on Saturday, October 10th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. 400 Center St S, Vienna Do you know what YOU can do to minimize injury and damage while waiting for first responders to arrive? Critical steps you take in the first few minutes can make a significant difference! 
Join us during our Open House to find out what you and your family can do! There will be a wide array of activities and displays for adults and children, including how to prevent fires and other mishaps, and what critical steps to take in an emergency. Learn about other aspects of safety, including how to prepare for and prevent different types of emergencies, pet safety and bike safety. You can tour our fire engines and ambulances, try on firefighter and EMS gear, and check out commonly used tools to see how we do our job. Plus, we will have a variety of fun family activities, including a moon bounce, kids coloring corner, and snacks provided by the VVFD Auxiliary. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is: Hear The Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm! When it comes to smoke alarms, it’s about “location, location, location.” The key message of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign is to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. Larger homes may need more alarms. Stop by for breakfast with the Mounted Police at the Washington International Horse Show to meet the officers and their mounts! The breakfast will take place at Hotel Monaco, which is located on the site of the first post office in Washington, DC. This 19th-century post office used to load and unload horses on a buggy around the back of the building where the restaurant, Poste Modern Brasserie, is now located. A “Human Buffet” of chilled juices, assorted pastries, breakfast burritos, coffee and tea, will be provided by the Hotel Monaco. A “Horse Buffet” of carrots and apples will be provided by the Washington International Horse Show. In the afternoon, guests can watch professional and amateur hunter riders will finish their divisions with a stake class, offering a larger purse, as well as the first show jumping class, the WIHS Children’s Jumper Championship, where riders under 18 compete to win a share of $10,000. This event is free and open to the public.

Join us for our 5th annual Military Night, presented by the Boeing Company. The events on this evening are about speed and power as the WIHS honors the military. Events include the $50,000 Speed Final, a high-test race over a challenging course with jumps close to 5 feet. Guests can also observe the Boeing Company $25,000 Puissance, where riders jump the great wall until only one contender remains without knocking it. This WIHS is one of the few shoes in the US to offer this class. The record to beat is 7’7-1/2,” set at Washington in 1983. Other exhibitions will include an Army v. Navy Celebrity Barrell Racing Competition, a military themed exhibition and a Mounted Colour Guard. Other events include a trophy presented in honor of the Armed Forces, recognition and support for our longstanding Official Military Charity Partner, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and the Armed Forces Reception, which benefits local therapeutic riding centers serving the military community. Finally, the Klinger Perpetual Award for Honor and Service presented by Ariat International and EQUUS Foundation will be awarded.
