+1. The Au pair arrangement wasn’t set up for your situation. So you will have to work with your attorney and your ex husbands attorney on how to structure childcare payments.

If I were your ex, I’d require you to divide out the Au pair’s care and expenses into categories: (1) her hourly wage while watching the child while you work; (2) her wages for watching the child while you are not working (out with friends, shopping, etc; and (3) the associated costs with having an Au pair (phone bill, grocery bill, gifts for the Au pair, vacations with the Au pair, car and gas for the Au pair, your mortgage and utilities).

If I was your ex, I’d only agree to cover bucket 1. This is probably cheaper than a nanny, so your ex will probably be thrilled.
You don't pay nannies less to live in. To be considered a bedroom it must have a closet and windows and privacy door.
If you charge $40 an hour for that they’ll find someone cheaper. Yes it’s PT but it’s not skilled work.
What's the rate adjustment about?
You're obligated to file taxes even if you get paid cash. The nanny can file taxes at any time. Along with a report of unpaid wages. Treble damages where I live.

She's supposed to be paying 30% of her income for rent but there are deductions and we don't know what she actually pays. It could be the correct amount because some places have a minimum payment no matter how low your income is & to be making less than minimum wage is going to be a pitiful amount.

Your sister better watch out. At the least she should pay the state minimum wage.
This is a question for your Maryland barred attorney, not the internet.
I don't know if I could get all that done in 16 hours.
They're probably just entitled & think they are better than those they hire.

The most naive take. Or you’re trying to assuage your own guilt because you also pay illegally and pitifully low. If not, you’re missing the huge power imbalance. In this situation the power is more unfairly balanced than in a typical employer/employee relationship. Isn’t this obvious? I guess not. Lots of people are missing the obvious in the country.

It all depends on the area and demand for Nannies.

Also, it’s nannies, since when is Nanny/Nannies a proper noun? Why do so many posters on this forum have a lack of knowledge of this? It makes you look dim.

It’s a proper noun here. Suck it up.

Except, it’s not. Suck it up and go back to school or continue to be uneducated. You’ll also continue to look dumb to everyone around you. This is second grade level information.

It’s autocorrect on my phone. No one is on here trying to write PhD essays. Try to stay on topic.

Yeah, knowing what a proper noun is and a PhD worthy essay are the same thing, for sure. Not that you’d know. Seems you’re going off topic. Interesting that even your “autocorrect” is dense.

Time to find a hobby lady. No one cares.
We hired a HS student when DD was 4 to do this. She was 16 and worked for us for the whole summer. We only needed twice a week though so she still had flexibility to do teen girl
Stuff on the other days.

OP, it all depends on how much you are willing to pay. If you pay $30 per hr, you would get a good candidates even if it is just for one month.
Post on Nextdoor or the nanny fb groups. But id wait until May it’s too early to book someone unless you pay a retainer
