Agreed! I'm personally not for abortion (meaning I wouldn't have one) but this is America and you (OP) have the right to make your own choices. Please don't let anyone make you feel like you have to justify it to a message board full of strangers.

Back in seventh grade, one of my best friends had an abortion. Her stepfather had been raping her regularly for two years. Her mother didn't find out until she brought her to the doctor and found out she was pregnant. My friend works with kids now, in a public school, as a teacher. She's wonderful. Every year, countless women (and girls) have abortions for a variety of reasons. You are free to think that what they're doing is wrong - just as I am free to think you are a judgmental jackass who likes to kick others when they're down and thinks it's okay to snoop through other people's personal belongings. You don't know the OP's life and situation any better than the MB or DB (actually, it's almost 100% certain that you know less). I hope you're not a Christian, because from what I've read, God does not look kindly on those who go around doing the judging for him.

Your first sentence implied that you were best friends back in seventh grade. Thanks for your clarification.

In that case, I apologize. I didn't realize.

I can't say that you needed to apologize for anything. The sentence said "back in 7th grade, one of your best friends had an abortion". It could also have said, one of my best friends had an abortion back in the 7th grade. It would still mean the same thing. It could still imply (if someone were assuming it) that you were friends with her at that time. It doesn't even matter if you WERE friends with her at that time. Many people don't tell ANYONE when something like that is going on. So you might not have never known about it even if you were friends then.

Some people need to realize that is not the important part of what was said, but that it was a circumstance that got someone pregnant and one where abortion was a reasonable choice for all those involved. To those that are high up on their pedestals, it's not your choice of what people choose to do with their own bodies. You can be against something all you want, but that choice is for YOU and not for you to push onto other people. If it is legal action for me to do, then it is fully my choice about what I decide. Don't give your opinion on the matter unless you are being asked for one from someone trying to make a decision and looking for input from others.

OP I am so sorry that this happened to you.
How did you know they went through your purse? Is that the only way they could have found out about the abortion? Or did you actually inform them you would have the procedure so you wouldn't be available to work for them for a few days?

Unless you can PROVE to a judge that you were fired based on the abortion, it may be very difficult to sue your employers. You would have the burden of proof here and if you cannot show it, you might not have any success.

Anyway, I understand you may be angry now. Try not let this get to you.
If you are okay financially, I would try to just suck it up and start looking for another position.

This family sucks.

This post is such a bunch of crap. OP, where on earth did you get this abortion at 4 weeks along? My work includes abortion referrals and the earliest I know that a clinic allows is five weeks three days.

I had an abortion at 4 weeks. I knew exactly when I got pregnant because I was in a long distance relationship, so knew exactly how far along I was.

I had a medical abortion, but my doctor would have done a traditional procedure too.

Okay, which clinic was this at because most reputable providers refuse to do an abortion prior to the gestational sac being visible and this never happens before five weeks.

I had my abortion 4 weeks after I had sex with my husband, I know because he went on a trip. I guess if you count the weeks from the beginning of my ovulation cycle it would have been 5 weeks. I also don't live in DC.

That's not 4 weeks pregnant. You were 6 weeks.
