And yet nannies keep applying to live-in vacancies without either - go figure. |
Poor immigrants without housing do not qualify as instant nannies, imo. Sorry. |
Indeed, legalized slave labor. Often, certainly not always. |
Your trolling is prolific. |
So potential employers advertising for a live-in nanny must pay regular OT wages? |
The nanny must be paid for all hours worked. Unless the home is in NY, CA or MD (perhaps other locations, you would have to check state and local regulations), OT is not required, and even in those locations, OT might not be required until after 44 hours. |
No, I don't think so. Do you have a government link to support that? Looks to me that when employer requires a live-in, normal OT rates kick in. |

I posted this on another thread:
I work as a live in for $500 a week flat, 52 weeks a year. My kids are school aged, so most of the time I'm only working 15hrs a week, I take on various jobs during the day, including dog walking and some babysitting of young kids, I also do light housekeeping for the family (I do all of the laundry and grocery shopping, walk the dog once a day, and do an overnight once a month). I'm supplied with a car that the family maintains and I have a gas card they pay for. Snow days, teacher work days and SOME summer weeks are longer hours, up to 45, but even in summer the kids are often signed up for half day camps. I do not vacation with my family, but they take approx. 4 weeks off a year and I try to time my vacations with theirs. On the weeks I'm at 15hrs, my pay is $33/hr and the weeks I'm at 45, it comes to $10/hr. I love my arrangement! |

On my phone and traveling, so I can't do the link right now. But yes, I'll copy it over later this week. For what it's worth, I'm the nanny who has posted the laws before, and although I wish OT was required, it isn't. |

Whether the nanny is required to live-in has no bearing on OT. It only matters in the discussion about charging for room/board. Link for live-in employees and overtime: http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfsFinalRule.htm Major headache right now, so I'll dig up the other links later. |
Please stop saying interwebz |
| Most domestics can't show you a W-2. |
Your opinion, you're entitled. It doesn't clear the employer of their responsibility. |
Legalized slave labor is a national embarrassment. I thought Obama would have spoken out against it. Perhaps Hillary, "the women's rights champion" will someday actually address this issue. But who knows, maybe she herself was profiting from the cheap foreign labor market while she chased a 'real' job. |
