It should be illegal to have slave labor and you should be arrested. Where is she from?

The word "slave" doesn't mean what you think it means. I'll give you a little hint: when one is free to leave, one isn't a slave.

Precisely. If she has no where to go, she isn't free to get away from your abuse.

My little darling, she could buy her own apartment with all the money she's saved over the years if she wanted to. She could certainly rent one tomorrow if she wished. I guess she doesn't care that what a random internet bozo thinks of her situation. If she wanted to leave, she could have done so a hundred times by now.

It is a benefit for you. A live in should be paid more, not less, for lack Of privacy and, essentially, on 24/7 call.

It can be of mutual benefit with the right person. You should not have to pay more but you may have to pay the same. Our live-in is not on-call during her off hours and she leaves every Friday at her usual time to spend the weekend with her family.

Are her quarters off limits at all times to you and children? You never come home late? You never request her assistance on her off time? Of you do any of these, then the benefit is grossly one sided.

PP you were addressing here. Yes to all of the above. I am very respectful of my nanny's time and space.

She can find another position. Nannies are "at will" employees. They are free to quit whenever they want. Look it up.

She has a point. A smart live-in can save a lot of money. There have been a number of nannies on DCUM who have posted about it.

How smart do you think someone who's earning $5.70/hr. might be, Einstein? Even mentally challenged people earn minimum wage in the United States. I'm afraid this poor thing is an illegal who has no place else to sleep, and doesn't want to be swept up by Obama for deportation. Her "payment" is obviously off the books.

$5.70 an hour plus free rent sounds better than $8.00 an hour, minus 30% in tax and minus another 40% in rent. Even Einstein can figure that one out!

Do you really think Einstein would take advantage of a poor illegal immigrant, and illegally pay a domestic worker next to nothing off the books? I seriously doubt it, as he tended to be a man of integrity, unlike yourself.

My little darling! I knew something is not quite right with you. Let's start with your mathematical abilities.

6 days x 10.5 hrs/day = 63 hrs/week

$500/63 hrs = $8/hr current wage

$400/63 hrs = $6.3/hr prior wage

Now, an Einstein I am not, but I can perform elementary multiplication actions just fine. It's a very sad state of affairs that people are allowed on the interwebz without mastering basic math first. If it was up to me, I'd make that a requirement before signing up. You want unlimited internet? very well, here's the multiplication table, please memorize it first.

Aw...you mean you went to law school when it became clear you are no good with the calculator?

And I guess they didn't tell you that room and board is part of the compensation for the live-in nanny? Please send us a link to your won case, I'd love to read that!

You know, there's several of us here who you're arguing with, and who are disgusting with your behavior.
