Nannies - PLEASE READ

Cut the crap. I see nannies on the phone all the time when I am with my charges and we all know that most of the time it has nothing to do with checking in with the parents.

What makes you think that you or anyone else, should get better than what you pay for? Hired childcare is not exempt from market reality inspite of your wishes. If it's the common norm for your sitter to hang on her phone all day, and you pay her 15-17/hr, you get what you pay for.

If you pay beyond these norms for exceptional service, that's what you'll get. Obviously, due diligence required in the hiring process. When you pay your 25/hr., Nanny knows that those jobs aren't a dime a dozen, so she's motivated to produce exceptional performance to match her exceptional compensation package.

This thread is not about nanny rates. We get it. You want to say that paying market rates will get you an overly texting nanny, but paying far above market will automatically get you a non texting nanny.

Therefore, bringing up the idea of pay rates in a thread about bad nanny behavior is off topic and silly.

Once I was in the cell with my boss. A lady said something like watch your kid who at the time was a year and snacking. I was watching her. The lady said I wonder what your boss would say. I guess because I was laughing. Anyhow I handed her the phone. My boss chewed her out.
