Some parents are slobs.
I've actually arrived to interviews where the house was an unbelievable mess. The parents behaved as if it was normal. Needless to say, I didn't waste much time with them. |
WOW! This forum is as extremist as a political forum! Some MBs think all nannies feel entitled and take advantage of their employers. Some nannies feel that MBs are abusing their children if they don't keep the nanny that doesn't fit well into the family. Neither of these views are accurate and I wouldn't want any part of these relationships!
OP, YOU were very unclear in your original post. You are also obviously angry and defensive. You are not displaying the ability to have an intellectual discussion regarding the matter. IF I was proactive in keeping the mess out of the car when it was in my use, I would be upset as well, but I wouldn't throw a fit. I would use the nap time one day to clean the car thoroughly. I would then be sure that the children and I kept it clean, including occasionally wiping it down. If the family trashed it on their time, I would not clean it out again. I would offer to take it and have it detailed and explain my reasoning in a kind and professional manner. It sounds as though they are giving you additional tasks that you are unhappy with and that you are looking to move forward. Hope things work out for you better in your next family. |
You don't sound to bright. Or maybe just inexperienced with these issues. |
"You don't sound to bright"
It's TOO, nice try though. |
Yep, that's you. |
It's the nanny car, right? Dedicated to nanny's use? Then she should absolutely clean it out and keep it clean. |
How is my intelligence in question? As a professional nanny of 8 years, I do think that it is perfectly acceptable to occasionally do tasks that are not typical, but help the family run smoothly. CLean the car, then keep it clean. I would not make it a habit to clean up after the parents (some parents are looking for that), but I also don't mind going above my typical responsibilities on occasion. Not sure how that makes me "not bright"? While commenting on the "not TOO bright" topic, my 5 y/o has better english skills that yourself. |
Read the thread, 21:10. The OP isn't doing anything additional or helpful for the parents, nor is she cleaning up for the family or going above typical responsibilities.
OP is talking about a car that's only used by the nanny to transport kids. The mess is caused by her charges, on her watch, and it's a standard nanny responsibility to clean up after her charges. OP is wrong. |
Dear OP. I'd fire you! |
I see these kinds of threads all the time and think the real issue is that OP, and many other nannies feel insecure about their jobs. So the best thing to say is ' I am NOT a maid', and thus feel better about themselves by putting down another working role. I think that is why many get do hung up on contracts and job descriptions. As a former nanny and current professional I can tell you that my job description, in crunch time means nothing. We pick up slack and do what our boss needs all the time.
If OP had posted that her family wanted her to do landscaping or watch the neighborhood kids, then I would see the point. But cleaning a car the nanny drives, is within a reasonable scope of employment. |
+10000 |
Well let's see, what's the difference in your pay since you are currently a "professional", and no longer a nanny? Btw, does that mean you weren't a professional nanny? Maybe that sheds some light here. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for. There's no free lunch for anyone. |
I meant no disrespect to Nannies. By professional I mean that I am employed by a company now, not a family. I work in educational consulting. Not sure how the no free lunch argument works here. Or, I should say it would not work in the OPs favor. There are simply more job applicants these days then there are good jobs. So you do not want to clen out a van, ok. Someone else will o it for $20.00 an hour. Just like most of us all with our boss/ job these days. I have a family to support, and the in the time it took to write the post the van could have been cleaned! |
OP again,
I'm done with this post. Most of you lack basic comprehension skills. Once again the van IS NOT primarily the nanny car. It is also used by the parents. |
Perhaps our apparent lack of comprehension is due to your initial post in which you stated that the minivan is, in fact, the nanny car:
"The minivan is the nanny car but it was junky BEFORE I started 3 months ago and never cleaned out" |
