Do you even bother to read the whole thread before posting stupid? Someone already shared a link that answers your issue the same way I did. http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/babysitternanny-camera-legality.html Google is your friend. It is legal in every state to have a hidden nanny camera that records video and you are under no legal obligation to inform anyone. The issues where states differ is in recording sound and in how the footage is used. Period. |
| As a nanny, this is why I don't work for families who has nanny cameras. If you don't trust me with your children then don't hire me. |
|
Every time you walk into a bank, you hope there are security cameras right? Did you ever get told "we have security cameras here at this bank?" How about the last time you were at a gas station. Did anyone ever disclose their camera?
Goes to show, recording you without consent is definitely legal, place of employment, home, wherever. Audio recording is sometimes not legal but I reviewed this years ago and found that in VA at least, it is legal. |
Banks and all other retail places are considered public spaces when it comes to the issue of surveillance. In a private resistance, which becomes a place of employment, you need to notify employees that there may be video surveillance, but not in the bedroom of a live-in or in the bathrooms. |
|
Fitting rooms have cameras to make sure you don't steal.
Anyway, people who think they need to be notified before being filmed is just plain wrong. That is not the law.. Virginia is one of the very few states in the country that allow both voice and video recording with no consent. Most states only allow video recording with no consent. |
| Nanny cams are legal so long as you do not record sound, or place them in inappropriate places such as the bathroom (duh). If you really love this nanny then I guess print off the law for her.... otherwise she sounds like a bit of a bitch. |
Actually, it's illegal to film inside the actual fitting room. Those notices are just to deter people, and warm them that there are cameras close by... but no, they're not allowed to film you undressing. |
If she is hurt on the job in your house, you better hope you have Workman's Comp. Mandatory in DC and MD. so your house is a place of employment. |
So a CEO isn't a professional because nobody does it for fun?! Are you kidding?! a person engaged or qualified in a profession. A professional in someone with a profession (aka career). A nanny has a profession: nanny. A nanny is a professional. Is that really that hard to understand? |
| I prefer my employers have nanny cams, in case something happens, they can refer to the recording, but I won't work for anyone who has the cameras connected to their network, due to hacking possibilities. Never had a problem yet, some families choose to instal after I suggest it, others don't. |
| God only knows what footage hackers have. |
"Hackers" love to watch nannies watching tv and folding clothes. |
If she's watching tv and folding your clothes, she's a babysitter, not a nanny. Nannies know better than to use the idiot box. But whatever she is, I hope she's doing a lot more than that. |
| Is $25 an hour a "low pay" job according to that troll? Majorities of the nannies have high school if not college educated. Unlike the troll who is maleducada. |
I've employed MANY nannies in the last 4 years and I can tell you I am being very generous with my assumptions of what they actually do. |
