Fixed that for you. |
Ughh, you again. |
You sound like a great nanny! |

Op, I agree with this pl. frankly, any qualified nanny for infants should know about the rules for TV and young children. You should not need to explain them and frankly it is not ok to disobey your very clear requests just because you didn't explain why. I think you should interview more nannies. Find one you like. The right candidate will 110% understand your desire for no tv, engagement, and real care taking. Go find that person. I honestly doubt your nanny can be that person after willfully disobeying your medically responsible request. While I don't expect this nanny to do something like forget a car seat, I do question her qualifications. Why did you hire her? |
I have a friend who nannies twin infants. She hates silence and since being a nanny can be lonely she always keeps the TV on to hear talking in the background. It is like white noise in a way because she isn't even listening to the story line. She doesn't listen to talk radio because it can be inappropriate and she said listening to music all day would drive her crazy. If she is watching TV on her tablet and you have an issue with it can't you just password protect your wifi? |
I interviewed with a family who has a 2 year old and 4 month old. She herself told me she has no issue with me watching shows I would like - within reason - as long as baby is asleep since 2 year old doesn't pay attention to tv. These were educated, white collar, upper middle class parents. I agree that OP has a right to feel the 9 she does as she made it clear to her nanny that no tv was allowed, but to say that nannies who watch tv on the job with permission or parents who allow it are wrong isn't okay. |
OP, the purpose of a nanny cam is to catch a nanny neglecting or abusing a child. That is it.
From what you said, it doesn't sound like either is happening here. IF your nanny is watching something on her tablet, she technically is not violating your wishes, because you told her not to watch T.V. and she isn't...She is watching something on her tablet. This is my problem w/nanny cams in general. Parents in my opinion use them under the guise that they want to ensure their child is safe and all, but what I sense they really want to do is micromanage their nanny all day long. This is a textbook example of just that. |
It's really awkward being alone in someone else's home all day long w/a young child and absolutely NO SOUND at all.
I usually either turn on the T.V. or at least some music. It can get dreadfully isolating and boring just being alone for such long hours in dreaded silence. Try it. |
Hahaha....no. The purpose of a nanny cam is whatever purpose the parents decide. That is it. As for whether the nanny is technically violating the parent's wishes by watching TV on a tablet is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Of course she is violating their wishes and should be fired for that. I hope you're not a nanny, PP. |
And you are why nannies dislike nanny cams. You're not worried about preventing abuse, you get some kind of power trip out of micromanaging. |
I don't have a nanny cam. I'm just an NP pointing out how silly your post is. Try to keep up. |
+1. I've seen SO many posts from nannies against nanny cams saying they won't prevent abuse so therefore they shouldn't be used if THAT'S the reason for them so which is it? I agree completely with PP, that a nanny cam is for whatever the parents want to use them for, with the caveat that they aren't hidden and they have made the nanny aware that they are there. We have cameras that have been very helpful for me to see how the nanny is with my children when I'm not there. NOT because I'm afraid of abuse but because you really never know how well they are interacting when you are not around. We had one nanny who seemed great with my children when I was there but I could see from the cameras she actually wasn't so good with my older DS when I wasn't there. The camera was really helpful for that. I know you will probably say otherwise but I have never micromanaged the nanny. In fact I specifically look for nannies I don't need to manage. We had one nanny who wanted me to tell her what to make DS for lunch every day. It drove me crazy! I hate having to manage, I want them to be independent and do whatever they think is best. |
You're never going to have a nanny who likes their job if you're angry with them watching TV. I've been watching kids for 6 years, I started when I was 16. No we I'm 23. Kids like to play alone. They SHOULD learn how to play alone. If your nanny watches tv for an hour is that really hurting the child? Trust me if she is good with your kid, let her watch tv, loving nannies are hard to come by. And the cameras are fucking creepy. The family I nanny for, I am part of their everyday. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with the kids. I cuddle them, they give me snuggles before naps. And they love me as part of their family. I feel 110% comfortable in their home to watch the kids while also not having a miserable time playing tea party all day. So my question is do you want an employee or a person who is an integral part of your child's life? |
