Charge [partially] to blame for broken iPad??

No, this had never happened before. Pretty much, he had been being dreadful all day and I threatened to call his father. I never had to do that, but MB and DB said if things get too out of hand, a call to dad usually straightens him up. Anyway, I followed through on my threat to call his dad, and he was very rude, belligerent and disrespectful to his father on the phone. His dad had him give the phone to me, and then he told me "Don't take him to ______'s bday party today." I asked if he was sure, and he said yes. I told my charge he was not going to the party. And he then began to throw a fit screaming and throwing things and then he jumped up on me and broke the bag.

Given this additional info, I think the parents should contribute towards the repair or replacement of the purse.

Absolutely. I was saying this was different from the beginning, but clearly the child was completely at fault here. I would say the parents pay in this case. This is so different from the iPad situation though.

You can take it to a mall kiosk that offers replacements for cracked screens for between $50 an $100. I have had several iPhone screens repaired this way. It's a good alternative to the $300plus Apple will charge. Next time, buy Apple Care.
