Poof! Goes your assertion that no other English speaking country uses it. I am not American and learned the phrase long before coming to America.

Not everyone may get it off. Some parents jobs may require them to work and than un turn the nanny will have to work.

Like who would not have off? A bus driver?

Or anyone working in the resturaunt or retail industries. Some people who work in banks, privately owned agencies or firms. Those who work in entertainment...shall I go on? The world does not sleep just because its a federal holiday. When you have to pick up a last minute item for the BBQ Monday from the grocery store why don't you thank the employees who have to spend their "holiday" looking after arrogant thankless customers like you.

Absolutely! Probably the most important...nurses and doctors do not get Christmas or thanksgiving off what makes you think they get Memorial Day?

"That is a typically American phrase"

maybe in some parts of the country. Born here though and never heard it. sounds extremely vulgar though - why would you WANT to use it?

I wouldn't think it makes a difference if you have or haven't heard this before. I do have to admit that for those who haven't like me, when you first hear it, it does sound like someone who doesn't know how to speak well is using bad grammer.
