I can believe it. There have been years that I've gotten $30+ per hour (rural area in which I had to argue for minimum wage for normal shifts, let alone more than minimum wage) for 1 or 2 kids, and there was one year that I had three families agree to share my rate, and it totaled out to $50/hour for 8 hours for 5 kids.

I find that hard to believe, especially if we are talking about one child. That said, the market rules and if there is a high demand for sitters on NYE than nannies should absolutely look after their best interests and make the most they can. We don't usually go out on NYE, but when we have our usual sitter has never raised her rates. According to her, she enjoys our child, the perks we offer, and the attempts we make to set up a wonderful evening for her and my child. She is also invited to bring a friend and we leave her food and a bottle of champagne for a midnight toast (which occurs long after my DD is asleep). We arrange her safe transport to and from our house.

However, if she wanted to take a job that made more money, I would completely support her. This is a job, after all.

Good compensation can indeed be offered in a variety of ways, hence the "compensation package." One of my previous jobs offered me amazing first class travel for my guest and my myself.

It should be way higher. I would not sit for anyone on this night without it being $20 or more.

I made this mistake 2 years ago with my employ family. I agree to sit for them from 9-1am so that they can go out and enjoy cause I didn't have plans with my ex BF until 2am that night. I told them to pay me what they could cause I was working for them and didn't want to look greedy. Upon their return, they handed me 50 bucks and said thank you. so like 12/h. I was expecting at least 80 bucks.

The worst, when I finally met up with my ex he was already drunk from an earlier party he begged me to go to and I refused cause I wanted to make money so he just wanted to stay home and we ended just going to bed. I was so pissed I didn't go out. So girls please don't do what I did…..charge up or go out enjoy your time. The money probably won't be worth it.

PP is our resident troll who makes these posts to start nanny-parent fights. Don't feed her.

I turned down $50/hr jobs to be loyal to my nanny family and work my regular rate. Nanny family is sick, they just canceled. Annoying.

They're paying you anyway, right?!

No but I found a family last minute. Not $50/hr but at least it's something!

No good deed goes unpunished. These cheap cretins should still pay you for 4 hours cancellation fee.

Ridiculous. If this is your NF, they should know that you are paid if they reserve the hours, whether or not they use them.

I am not a nanny but, at that time a SAHM, I was offered $200/hr to babysit for NY's Eve 2000. They wanted me for 36 hours. My children are older and my DH would have been at home with them. I turned it down because I would have had to stay at their house and they had two boa constrictors plus a pgymy python.

LOL. No one turns down $7200 because of a snake in a tank they don't even have to interact with. You have to make your lies somewhat believable to troll correctly.
