Question for travel nannies RSS feed

I'm about to sign a full time job contract with a great family.
However they will be starting to travel quite a bit more than I usually do but I'm ok with that.
My question is what do you do if the baby is not in a schedule yet?
Too little and wakes up a lot during the night.
She is a sweetheart.Only 3 months old.
I'm a little worried that I will be miserable not being able to sleep well at night.
How much should I charge them for the first months until she is older and sleeping better?
Money is not a issue for them and I want to be fair to them and myself.
Thank you in advance.

In this area you get a MINIMUM of 25/hr you are on call. If you’re on call at night, and you need a nap during the day, you tell them.

You will burn out in a very short period of time with a 24/7 work day. They need a second nanny with the two of you switching off.

Are you signing on for 24/7?

Oh I see
That's a great idea to suggest

No I'm going to be working Monday-Friday on a full time position.
But they asked me to travel with them sometimes and I think it's a good opportunity for me financially but I'm afraid to be burned out on the trips since the baby is not yet sleeping through the night.

It could be six or more months before baby sleeps through the night.

Did they tell you they’ll pay you for every hour you’re on call while on vacation?

24/7 care of an infant starts at $600/day ($25/hour), and if the infant will be in your room, ask for $720/day ($30/hour). If you just won't be able to sleep due to the baby crying and need other accommodations, it's totally reasonable to ask them to pay for a room of equivalent price in a nearby motel/hotel.

That’s not full time. That’s on call for trips. When do you sleep?!

I'm confused- did they say you will be working 24/7 during trips?

I've traveled with many nanny families and haven't ever been responsible for nights- I always have my own room/accomodations.

Set a high travel rate, OP. I think $700 or $800 a day until the baby is sleeping six hours straight.

And you’ll be okay. Sleep when the baby sleeps. Get one full day off when traveling every week.
