I have continued working with NF and glad to be receiving a paycheck. However things might change a lot in the next two weeks (in MD). They probably will not let me go so I won't be able to file for unemployment. They are not essential employers but they do have a lot on their plate pretty much like everybody else these days. Please don't ask about social distancing and closed loops because apparently everyone has a different definition of those them and myself included. However I'm concerned about the ethical ramifications of my continuing to not actually SIP. Anybody?

I'm not sure what you're asking. You want us to tell you when to quit your job? I can't understand why you would quit.

Ethically, as long as you only go where it’s absolutely necessary (including your job, if you’re working in a private home), you’re fine. Starting a new job is totally different.

OP I guess I'm saying that in two weeks MD might look like Italy.

Quitting because of coronaviruus is a legitimate reason for quitting.

Because she doesn't want to die of covid 19!

If you are scared to work you have every right to leave your job. There might be some benefits available to you if you do so - but possibly not.

I do not believe that things on the ground in Maryland are going to change so drastically in the next two weeks that you need to be afraid to keep working at this point. The Italy scenario is one where there wasn't the kind of enforced physical distancing as early in the pandemic as Maryland had. But that's just my opinion.

We all have to make whatever decisions - even if they are hard - feel right and safe to us. And we each have differing levels of vulnerability and/or comfort with risk. That is true for your employers also.

OP here I know this is a decision that only I can make for myself. I'm not just worried about me being sick but about being asympotomatic and getting someone else sick.

If you know that, why are you asking us when you should quit?

I'm not asking you personally as much as trying to crowdsource opinions. Thanks for your input.

They fired you. Look for a new job. It’s simple.

Childcare is considered essential. So you can go to your essential job - providing childcare - in Maryland.

If you are worried your NF is not social distancing, you could quit, but I would not expect to receive unemployment.

What exactly is your NF doing?

No I wasn’t fired. I’m still working. Maybe you are referring to a different thread.

Childcare is the responsibility of the parent and no one else. O predict that coronaviruus will have nannies finding new non childcare jobs as they have now finally found out that their familiesdo do not give a damn about them. For instance, the nanny whose family refuses to pay her for time already worked. Both parents at home but still need a nanny!

There was a reason childcare is considered an essential function. Both parents at home still need to work. And not all homes have two parents.
