Can I outsource the witching hour?

Can I hire someone who would pick up DS from daycare at 4PM, and do some light housework and cook dinner so I come home to a clean house, cooked dinner, and un-cranky toddler at 6:30? How much would something like this cost? FWIW I live right off the metro and I COULD afford to throw up to $1300/mo at this (though I'd prefer not to...but I would. I hate the witching hour that much).

The after-school babysitters are the hardest to find and most expensive. You have to make it worth the babysitter's time to get someone to come over for two hours.

You could do 3 hours per day at $20 per hour. I would have the nanny arrive at your house at 4pm, throw in a load of laundry, prep dinner, then go pick up your DC (assuming his daycare is not far from where you live). Then return home, put the clothes in the dryer, cook dinner and play with DC.

You get home, and then she can deal with folding/putting away the laundry and help clean up dinner, leaving at 7pm.

Not really a nanny - more like a housekeeper who babysits - but I am not going to get into that here. Go up to $25 an hour, off the books, OP. Even if you did one day a week yourself, you could still get someone for Monday thru Thursday, 4 to 7, for $25 cash - no benefits. Take DD out to eat on Fridays.

In my experience, these positions have a great deal of turn-over. Save the wording for your care.com ad because you will need to place the ad several times before DD can care for herself after school.

+1 Perhaps someone in your neighborhood has a housekeeper who is off at 3 or 3:30 who would like the extra cash.

I'm the p.p. you quoted. I think $25 if she finds someone for less I guarantee they won't stay. Many nannies have a 4 hr minimum. Who would want this job for less. The witching hour is stressful. If you think $66 is eorth it for you to bathe, drive, cook, and babysit you take the job

Op here - I found someone. She cooks, cleans, and - bonus - speaks our mother language so DS gets more practice. Plus she's nice and, no, she did not request $100/day or even $25/hr.
