| Our nanny of a year is getting a reduction. For medical reasons as well as its obvious to anyone with her frame she must be in pain and disproportionate. My question is she won't be able to lift for a while after and how do we deal with her recovery time? Do we pay her in full? Use up her vacation? I'd like to work something out as the procedure is pricey but my husband thinks it will be a lot longer time off than we anticipate. |

You can easily look up how long recovery from a breast reduction takes online.
I would do what is done in companies. You have to use up all your vacation and sick days BEFORE you can go on short-term disability, which is probably what your nanny will need. |
| Why are you even entertaining this? You are a family employing a nanny, not a small business or corporation. Just let her go and find a new nanny who can work. You are insane if you consider paying her to recover from elective cosmetic surgery, or any surgery at all. Needed or not, it's not your responsibility. |
Needed surgery is not elective. Generally breast reductions are done because they're needed. |
Cruella Devil has spoken. You are one sorrysorryexcuse of a human being. |
Agreed. |
|
Considering this is a form of elective surgery, I would let her use her vacation pay.
It wouldn't be fair to your family to have to pay her for something like this. |
You are a piece of shit. I hope your job decides to drop you when you find out you are terminal from having a stick up your ass for so many years. You bitter excuse for a human being. |
It's not elective in this case- medical reasons. |
are you jealous of your Nanny? I am so Glad she's not going fraternity clinic thats for sure .Not bring other human being in her life she doesn't taking care of well. of course you have to pay her full . If I'm not making mistake she work for you dear...you must be around 40s you not comfortable with yourself !!! The reason I'm asking because you're not sure that with you have to pay or not she must be look good you have to !!! |
Give me a break. Not elective my ass. I have 36 k's and I'm not having elective surgery becuae my back hurts. Yes my back hurts I suck it up because that's the cards life dealt me. I would never even think of doing this to my nf. This is something you do when you are unemployed. |
So it isn't necessary for you, congrats. That doesn't mean that it isn't necessary for OP's nanny. You don't know her situation, you don't know what conversations she had with the doctor, and you don't know whether her insurance is covering it as medically necessary. Unless you have those pieces of information, how can you make that call? Regardless of whether the surgery is elective or necessary, normal procedure is to use sick days, PTO and vacation. Whether you decide to offer paid or unpaid leave beyond that is up to you, OP. And if you think that she will be out for a while, hiring a new nanny is also valid. If the surgery is medically necessary and you terminate her, she does have a right to collect unemployment, and I don't think she would be required to look for a new position while she's recuperating. I would suggest a candid talk with your nanny, see what her thoughts are, and what you budget is, especially because you're probably going to want to hire a temp nanny. |
| Does she have any sick leave to use? Most people, in any job, will first use any banked sick or annual leave regardless of whether they are doing something elective or not. Treat it the same as you would if she was having surgery for any other reason. |
Are you special ed |
Not everyone needs to be a martyr. Smart nannies take care of their health. You know that, my dear. |
